The long journey ahead of us

When I first saw the title of the film, Idaho, I thought it was the name of a character in the film. I later learned it was a place name.

At the beginning, an open dictionary provides the definition of a word:

nar-co-lep-sy n. a condition characterized by brief attacks of deep sleep.

For the next few dozen minutes, completely unintelligible, soft tones, music fans Magic;

the second half, gradually clear.

Half of

the man was Mike, babbling to himself on the highway, and lethargic when he was nervous.

When he was born, his father was unknown, and his mother had left him. After that, she became a male prostitute.

Maybe it was his only way to survive.

A guest told Mike his birthday in advance: April 4, 1944.

4+4+4+4=16 1+6=7 7, his Lucky Number.

Mike's best hope is to find his mother,

the road leading to his birthplace, Idaho State.

Here he is alone watching, watching...

about the mother's

every fainting brings every memory of the mother. Those only fragmented fragments.

The clear blue sky with floating clouds; the school of jumping fish; the lonely wooden house on the green field.

Mother hugged Mike, stroked the blond hair, and said repeatedly, "Everything will be alright."

When she woke up, she would forget and find herself standing there again, increasingly helpless.

The other half

is Scott, Mike's good friend and the mayor's son.

There is an innate sense of rebellion in his bones.

Having sex with a man for money, revenge is his ultimate pleasure.

In a few days, he can inherit his father's property and live a life of high society.

When Mike passed out, Scott was by his side, taking good care of him until Mike woke up.

Half-man-man

Mike learns from his brother that he is the product of incest,

and joins Scott on a journey to find his mother.

Portland, Seattle, Ideho, and finally Rome.

One night on the way, Mike said to Scott with great difficulty:

"I can love someone and not for money"

"I love you, and you don't have to pay me."

Scott hugged him helplessly. :

"I have sex with a man for money, two men can't love each other."

Rome

arrived in Rome, and her mother had returned to the United States.

And here, Scott found his love.

Under the tree, she said, "I think I'm in love."

At the head of the bed, Scott said, "I think I'm in love."

Every night, the sleepy child couldn't sleep anymore, listening to the building in despair. The lingering sound on.

Scott sold the motorcycle and walked away with the girl, back to where he was.

At the end of the film, Mike once again fell asleep on the road.

A short time later, a car stopped and Mike was taken away.

It's just that that person is no longer Scott.

Postscript:

In reality,

the actor who played Mike, River Phoenix,

died of drug addiction two years after winning the award in Venice. Only 23 years old.

And Keanu Reeves, with the "Matrix" series reached the peak of his career.

My Own Private Idaho quotes

  • Scott Favor: Getting away from everything feels good.

    Mike Waters: Yeah, it does.

Scott Favor: When I left home, the maid asked me where I was off to. I said "Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day."

Mike Waters: You had a maid. If I had a normal family, and a good up-bringing, then I would have been a well-adjusted person.

Scott Favor: It depends on what you call normal.

Mike Waters: Yeah, it does. Well, you know. Normal. Like a mom and a dad and a dog, and shit like that. Normal. Normal.

Scott Favor: So, you didn't have a normal dog?

Mike Waters: No, I didn't have a dog.

Scott Favor: Didn't... or... didn't have a normal dad?

Mike Waters: Didn't have a dog or a normal dad anyway, yeah. That's alright. I don't feel sorry for myself. I mean, I feel like I'm... I feel like I'm... you know... well-adjusted.

  • Mike Waters: This is a nice home. Do you live here?... I don't blame you.
