For this film, the form itself is a striking and moving style. The film breaks the limitations of time and space, and breaks all possible forms of restraint. Even the hero and heroine have no names. The unique way of dealing with the narrative severes the connection between the picture and the characters, but reconnects them through raving memories and forgetting. The people in the film are like ghosts, statues or elves, wandering the labyrinthine palaces of Borges. Renai not only transcends reality, but even breaks reality. Mysterious love and entanglement are paired with elegant classical beauty, becoming a romance that is almost ruined.
