The protagonists live alone in their own worlds. She, an aspiring architect, had to temporarily engage in window design. He is an engineering otaku who is engaged in web design. The same is that they all live in shoebox apartments without sunlight. In the first half of the movie, their repressed life, although they have a lot of yearning for life, but like their apartment, there will never be sunlight.
Although she has many suitors, it turns out that either she doesn't like him or he doesn't like her. The first man, on a date, picked a restaurant on the 20th floor. But she was claustrophobic and couldn't take the elevator. After persuading her to take the elevator and choose another restaurant to no avail, the man chose to climb the stairs with her. At the beginning, the man was confident that he could climb the 20 floors of stairs, so he told her about his experience of climbing the pyramids in Egypt with his companions. His words revealed his tenacity and disdain for his companions who gave up halfway. She listened silently, without saying a word, just to persuade the man not to talk too much and save his energy to climb the stairs. The man apparently didn't take her advice into account. 3rd floor. 5th Floor. 9th floor. In the end, he decided to give up and take the elevator to wait for the heroine. She then also climbed to the 20th floor. Maybe it's because she lost confidence in the man who gave up halfway, maybe it's because she feels insecure about being known about her claustrophobia. Instead of walking towards the man who had been waiting at the dining table for a long time, she ran down the 20th floor after washing her face in the bathroom.
She was the second man she met in the swimming pool. The first time they met, he enthusiastically taught her swimming experience. Unlike the people in the pool who swim for the sake of swimming, he really loves swimming. At the same time, although he is a doctor, he is also an insomniac. Swimming can bring his body to extreme exhaustion and relieve his tense nerves. The second man gave her hope, and he was also a lonely person like her. She felt like she had found her own kind. But this man also had his own insurmountable psychological obstacles. After some contacts, he never came to the swimming pool again, and she never met him again. The ending with the first man was the result of her active choice, but this time it was the result of being chosen, and her heart was hurt again.
The movie also describes the heroine's change in attitude towards the piano. The first time she met the piano was when she was out. The porters used ropes to transfer the piano from the top of the building to the apartment. She counted the floors and found that the piano was bought by her neighbor.
