The film's music plays, and in some eerie murmurs, the little girl Emily (played by Dakota Fanning) and her mother play a game of hide-and-seek. "Come out, come out, whatever you are...", the phrase uttered during hide-and-seek is repeated many times in the film, and each time the effect is completely different.
Last night at 8pm I decided to watch "Hide and Seek" which I had already bought, mainly for the acclaimed child star Dakota. Of course, Robert De Niro, who plays Dad David, is also a very popular actor (although I have only seen the old "Godfather -- Part II" in his films). Watching discs at night has always been a pleasure, not to mention my favorite horror movies.

The tone of the whole film is depressing, and occasionally there are a few frightening scenes, which are only interspersed in them. After watching it for about 30 minutes, I even felt dull and didn't want to watch it any longer. I found that if European and American horror films do not use bloody scenes as gimmicks, it seems that psychological thrillers are really not very good. In the past, only "The Sixth Sence" ("The Sixth Sense") was impressive, and the likes of "Shining" ("The Shining"), "Hide and Seed" felt that they did not do home. The winning point of psychological thrillers is naturally that people seek stimulation and constantly "scare themselves", but I personally think that these two films are too depressing, and it is difficult to excite people at the beginning.
Of course, the second half is still pretty good. The ending can also be guessed (it feels like it borrows the idea of "Shining" here). It's just that there are a few places in the film that I still don't understand. If anyone with a heart sees it, I would like to give some advice.

1. Why does David repeatedly wake up at 2:06?
Did he see her wife cheating on him at this time? But it seems that the cheers in the dream celebrating the arrival of the new year are not far from the moment when David's wife slips out. . . (PS

At first everyone thought Charlie was Emily's imaginary friend. But later we will naturally find that this is not the case. So, what was Emily thinking? She should have known it from the start, but why wasn't it that way in front of his father?

3. The daughter of the neighbor's wife?
After reading it, maybe we will just think that it is a gimmick. But I still find it difficult to understand. If it's just to make the neighbors suspicious, then when David sees them, it's always a bit clearer? For example, how did that girl die. I thought the girl was called "Charlie" and thought she was there to control Emily and ask Emily to play with her, but it wasn't. So that's all the girl's role is? Are there any hints or something? I think so but don't know.

4. Why did Emily break the doll's face?
The first time Emily sees the cave in the film, the doll in her hand falls out of her hands. David later discovered her doll's face had been mangled and thrown in a trash can. Later girls came to see Emily and she broke the face of the doll again. What does this imply? I keep wondering if Emily's mental problems exist. Does she herself feel that her psychology has changed?

5. Why does Emily play "Hide and Seek" at the end?
The last time I saw Emily playing hide-and-seek with herself. When she pulls out the closet and says "I found you", we see Emily in the mirror. This is also my biggest confusion. Obviously the director is trying to explain something, but it's hard for me to catch the stupidity. . . Also please call.

Overall, "Hide and Seek" wasn't as good as I expected, but it was good. At least Dakota's acting skills are indeed mature, I was stunned and hairy. Suddenly want to see "I am Sam" she used to star in with Sean Penn, must be cute.
