A cavity of loneliness and tenderness

Because of Yoshiaki Kawajiri, I decided to watch his classic "Vampire Hunter D" before going to bed.

The animation is based on a novel about a human-vampire hybrid D who becomes a vampire bounty hunter. Charlotte, the daughter of a wealthy family, was kidnapped by vampires, and the owner of the manor invited D and the vampire hunter Max brother and sister to rescue him.

The beginning is a gorgeous picture. Every frame of 1080P makes me feel that this 2000 work is a well-deserved classic. The beautiful and gentle girl was sleeping soundly in the dark, when the roses decayed, a gust of wind passed, and the vampire broke the window and took the beautiful woman.

With a black wide hat, a large black cape, and a black horse, he is as dangerous and arrogant as a bat in the dark night. Among the guards with guns under a group of nobles, Vampire Hunter D agreed to take over the business and started chasing vampires.

As a half-blood, D not only has to face the masters who guard vampires, the bounty hunters fall into the ground, and the panic confrontation of humans. In his long life, he was accustomed to danger and hatred, and lived strong and lonely in a desolate world.

But there is always tenderness that he desires and insists on, the unbearableness of the two races who actually eloped with the vampire, and the treatment of the opponent, like a little bit of starlight leaking from the black like night. Only at a certain time with good intentions will it appear.

The desolate and ruined world, the survival of the weak, the vampires who live forever and the beautiful, and the human beings who live with fear and fear, the subject matter is sufficiently chilling, coupled with the gorgeous and dark Kawajiri Yoshiaki style, and finally formed this classic.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust quotes

  • Meier Link: You look so beautiful.

[kisses her, then as his bloodlust rises he draws back]

Charlotte: Why stop? I want you, Meier, I want ALL of you... Why not?

Meier Link: You don't know what it's like, Charlotte, to live forever in darkness eternal, forever thirsting for blood despite your best intention. I can't imagine that life for you. Not for you, Charlotte.

Charlotte: You're so selfish, Meier. I carry a heavy weight on my conscience. Those villagers and the bounty hunter and my family - they still mourn my loss, Meier.

Meier Link: It wasn't your doing, Charlotte. It was my fault entirely.

Charlotte: Well, then, we're both to blame. Because we can't know happiness, not anymore. I wanted you to be happy, Meier, and so I abandoned my father and my brother for you. But their pain set the wheels in motion for our pain, and so on and on it goes... All we have is each other now, and I want to be close to you. Without that we have nothing. All the pain I've caused and all the agony I feel is nothing, now! And you are everything to me, my love!

    [pause]

Meier Link: We'll talk more on our trip to the stars, if that's all right with you.

  • [as the rocket ship takes off]

Leila: Where is he taking her?

    D: Away from here.
