I'm really fortunate, if the person who posted the film marked the sub-label of "gay movie", I would definitely watch this movie with some kind of "expectation", which changed my initial impression from the beginning. (Like I went to see Brokeback Mountain with high expectations, it turned out...)
I don't have much exposure to German films, so I don't have a general concept like English and French, about Germany now, know that it is Darkwave powerhouse, and two goals by Italy in the last two minutes of extra time in the semi-finals...sorry for digressing.
I just want to explain the beautiful and sad blonde on blonde with a familiar melody at the beginning of the film. The close-up shows the young and energetic bodies and smiling faces of the two teenagers in sports. The colors are bright and clean, which immediately attracted me.
At least at this moment, I haven't thought about same-sex attraction, and I have a thought in my mind: wow, it's beautiful to be young.
There is no need for a detailed description of the following content. Boys, girls, friendship, love, rowing, team. Sommersturm, like the title, is a story that happened in the summer, pouring down on every young heart that is growing and transforming like a storm.
It's not heavy, but it's not as frivolous as a typical youth piece. The director's handling of such a sensitive subject as homosexuality is admirable, everything is natural, and there is no sense of abruptness. Delicate psychological portrayal resonates.
So I will not label it homo, if it must be positioned, it is growth. When you watch it, you will smile from time to time, because growth is something everyone has experienced, and it is hard not to be moved by such a narrative.
