This is not a movie review, it's a personal opinion
[Spoiler] "The Art of Self-Defense": Eisenberg is indeed a great actor, and his character begins with a very cowardly man, and he plays it alive. Movie-wise, it's actually pretty magical. This kind of thing hardly occurs in reality, but behind the magic, it may directly point to various acute problems in reality.
The following section contains spoilers. Personally, I feel that understanding this film requires attention to several places.
1. After the male protagonist started to study with the male coach, his life can be said to be getting worse and worse. But he didn't find it. For example, his boss treats him really well, invites him to dinner at home, and arranges paid holidays for him. But he beat up the boss.
2. The male coach has been emphasizing "ruthlessness". Most of the time in the film, "ruthlessness" is the magic weapon for the male coach to rule the group, but in the end, it is the hero's "love" that kills him.
3. The female apprentice in the movie has some lines, which I feel is the key point. "Until now, you've been taught that violence equals strength, and compassion equals weakness," she said. "This philosophy is limited. It is possible to tolerate cruelty or peaceful brutality." (I don’t know if there is a problem with the translation.) Simply speaking, I personally understand this sentence, which means that if society wants to develop, there are actually many ways, and it does not have to be so cruel or profit-oriented. All roads lead to Rome. "This idea is limited," this line does not deny that violence can achieve goals, but it does remind that if there is a better way, why not use it? ? ?
4. The last person who has compassion in his heart starts to educate children. I think this aspect is to say that various concepts about life should be educated from an early age.
