It turned out that all of this was just an illusion before Henry's death. So all the illogicalities are understandable, after all you can't ask too much of a dying person.
Director Marc Forster said in an interview with MTV.com that the reason why Sam's pants are always short in the show is because in Henry's eyes, Sam is squatting, and when people squat down, the pants are naturally pulled up. This also shows that the film is indeed what happened in Henry's cerebral cortex. It's just that if you don't like to study movies, it's really hard to understand this movie. For a film featuring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts to not make the top 10 at the North American box office during its release, the lack of obvious clues may be one of the film's failures, but it may be a failure for people who flaunt their taste.
