Hello everyone, I'm Meng Meng, who recommends movies to everyone.
A piece of news caught my eye recently.
"India has decided to send 'The Rap of India' to compete for the Oscar for Best International Film (formerly Best Foreign Language Film) next year!"
For a hip hop lover who has watched "The Rap of China" and two seasons of "The New Rap of China", such movies cannot be missed.
Just have a chat.
The male protagonist "Street Boy" was born in poverty. A family of five huddled in a small house. Facing college graduation, what he has is not the pressure of life, but the oppression of life.
The first oppression: the hero lives with his father, mother, grandmother, and young stepmother. The complex relationship and the traditional thinking of the patriarchal society intersect, and the departure of the hero and mother is only a matter of time.
The second oppression: The hero's friend is engaged in the crime of stealing and selling cars. He is ashamed of it, but he has to cooperate with his friends in order to live, and goes further and further on the road of crime.
The third oppression: the heroine, who is a childhood sweetheart with the hero, is from a wealthy family and has a bad temper. Due to the gap between the rich and the poor, the heroine had to secretly date her family. And she is jealous of the jar and occasionally brings trouble to the hero.
In short, this is due to the inevitable class oppression caused by the gap between the rich and the poor.
Fortunately hip hop is still around.
The movie tells the story of the male protagonist breaking his own class boundaries while growing up with hip hop music, and harvesting family, love and friendship.
It is very positive, and it also shows many social problems in contemporary India.
This may be the reason why India chose Ocas.
But in my opinion, the film still has a lot of shortcomings.
In other words, it is not up to the level of the Oscars.
First of all, whether it is the framework or the character design, it is too similar.
Almost identical to the semi-autobiographical film "8 Mile" by American hip-hop star Eminem.
The male protagonist also came from a poor family, and also turned around with the help of hip hop salted fish.
The frame is similar, but in the first battle, both of them chose to escape, but it was a naked "salutation".
Secondly, there are too many points to dig deeper, just superficial.
For example, the injustice of a male-dominated society, such as the injustice of class ideology, such as the injustice of women's rights being oppressed, and the injustice of the gap between the rich and the poor.
A lot of social injustice scenes, plus the main hip hop scenes, and lengthy emotional scenes, filled the 153-minute time.
Insufficient distribution of scenes is doomed to the brevity of the content of the attack.
But one thing to say, the movie still put a lot of effort into hip hop.
Although I don't know Hindi, I feel that the rhythm is similar, and I can't get the punchline brought by the lyrics, but the overall flow is not bad, and some bridges will also raise their hands with the rhythm.
It's a little pity that there are too few songs and dances, and I didn't hear enough.
Perhaps this is the charm of rap.
