Soul Surfer

Based on the true story of Hawaiian pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost almost her entire left arm to a shark attack during her teenage years, but overcame obstacles to become a pro. So this movie obviously can only be an inspirational theme. You can also learn a little about the rules of surfering.

There are two interesting settings. One is that the prototype of the story is a devout Christian, and the film also respects this and has many plot references. The second is that the heroine has a very happy family, 100% support and love for her parents and two older brothers, perhaps this is the biggest motivation for her to overcome such a major setback of fate.

Overall, the film is very positive. And the picture and music are very good, you can watch it as a Hawaiian scenery film.

A typical inspirational film, but 4 stars are given to its real-life story and the last two surf shots of the film (as handsome as it is dead).

Soul Surfer quotes

  • [last lines, narrating]

Bethany Hamilton: I was born to surf. This is why I wake up at the crack of dawn everyday. This is why I endure belly rashes, reef cuts and muscles so tired they feel like needles. And I've learned life is a lot like surfing. When you get caught in the impact zone, you need to get right back up. Because you never know what's over the next wave. And if you have faith, anything is possible, anything at all.

  • Transworld Surf Reporter #1: Bethany, I'm from Transworld Surf Magazine. Are you upset you didn't win today?

Bethany Hamilton: I didn't come to win, I came to surf.

Fuel T.V. reporter #2: Bethany, I just wanted to ask you. If you could go back to that day, and not have gone surfing, would you do it?

Bethany Hamilton: I wouldn't change what happened to me, because then I wouldn't have this chance. In front of all of you... this chance to, embrace more people than I ever could have with two arms.
