The relay-like appearance of the characters is refreshing and unique. Buñuel's creativity and imagination are simply breathtaking. Mysterious photos are seen by couples as unclean and vulgar objects, but they are really just scenic spots. This mental inertia about not talking to strangers is stretched infinitely into a state of collective unconsciousness. The husband had dreams about chickens, witches, postmen, and ostriches, and woke up to find that it was not a dream at all, but a real existence. The dental nurse was playing cards with four monks at the hotel, and the monks smoked and drank, and they didn't know if they would burn their heads. In another room, an old woman had incest with her own nephew. In the end, everyone was invited to the room by a well-mannered businessman, but they witnessed an SM drama together, and then everyone dispersed. A farce tore the veil of hypocrisy of people from all walks of life. They meet in the land of freedom and release the id together. When the professor visited a wealthy friend's house, the dining table in the living room was turned into a toilet. Everyone sat on the toilet and chatted. The toilet was turned into a dining room for one person only. This is the most imaginative section. All secular conventions can be subverted, everything is formalism, and all meanings can be re-given, the essence of existentialism. Man born with cancer returns home and is told by school that his daughter is missing. When I came to school, I found that my daughter was sitting well in the class. But even though everyone saw it, they still chose to call the police. The police even drew a portrait of the missing person based on the face of the daughter sitting in front of her. Such illogical and absurd behavior once again alludes to formalism and dogmatism. A murderer who randomly shoots passersby with a sniper rifle is sentenced to death, and the way of execution is immediate release... So returning to life, returning to freedom is equal to the death penalty? Haha, that's the truth, suicide is to live. The police chief received a call from his dead sister, who recalled that the image of his sister playing the piano naked in front of him illustrates the taboo emotions that existed between them. So the director decided to find out what happened but was caught as a criminal. Later, he participated in the suppression of the riot at the zoo, and the slogans of "Down with Freedom" continued to be heard around. The film ends with an ostrich.
What is down with freedom? You see, isn't this movie showing all kinds of freedom? All kinds of characters live in infinite freedom against rules and rationality. But in the same way, they live in chaos and disorder within the rules of freedom. Freedom is relative, conditional, and requires a rational framework. With rules, there will be freedom only when there is restraint, otherwise it will only become a phantom of freedom.
