glass castle

I read it from college English books, and I always wanted to read the original book. After watching the movie, I found that some parts, such as the movie about how my father treated him when he was young, were not very clear. We always talk about how irresponsible the parents are to their children, but on the other hand, the children are everything to them. They want to teach their children what they didn't have when they were young, or what they never learned. They thought their children would be happy, but they didn't realize that they were too young. When the child grows up, he does not realize that the child has become independent. Unconsciously, the built "glass castle" lost its meaning as the children grew up. It confirms a sentence that the world is dangerous, and it is only safe to be around your parents.

best seller. America is no longer great. The most repressed parents have the most hippie children, and the most hippie parents have the most orthodox children.

It is also a growth story of "suffering is a blessing, with mixed sorrows and joys". The story of this kind of shit native family is really not enough. Life gives you a lemon, you can indeed make lemon juice, but it’s not that it’s best to think of sweetness without remembering bitterness.

The Glass Castle quotes

  • Jeannette: [sighs] My parents are squatting in an abandoned building on the Lower East Side.

    David: Jeanette...

Jeannette: They were homeless before that for three years before that, which was pretty much how they raised us. My dad is not developing a technology for bituminous coal but he could tell you anything you want to know about it. He is the smartest man I know. He is also a drunk.

    [inhales]

Jeannette: never finishes what he starts and can be extremely cruel. But he dreams bigger than anyone I've ever met. And he never tries to be somebody that he's not. He never wanted me to either.

    [Exhales]

Jeannette: I'm sorry, but I have to leave.

    David: Go.

  • Jeannette: You did all this for me?

Rex: Since when is it wrong for a father to take care of his little girl?
