"The Triumph of the Will" Summary

A patriarchal film, watching it with your head up in front of the curtain, feels extraordinarily different. "Italy" is the best example of Riefenstahl's film engineering. The straight-line vertical composition, solemn music, grand scenes under the big panorama, and the stalwart of the Führer from an upward angle all highlight one purpose: Hitler was great, and the Nazis were invincible and would never give up. Even an outsider like me was excited and wanted to follow along. This is the victory of the mise-en-scene. I admire Riefenstahl's film theory, but I really don't like the content of the film. I don't think I can stand this brainwashing image bombardment for three hours straight.

The Triumph of the Will quotes

  • Adolf Hitler: The German people are happy in the knowledge that a constantly changing vision has been replaced by a steadfast pole!

  • Adolf Hitler: There is always a part of society that sets themselves apart and more is expected from them than from the millions of national comrades. For them, it is not enough to simply pledge 'I believe', but rather the affirmation 'I fight'!
