"Infernal Affairs" Review

I only make some personal or subjective tentative comments on my post-viewing thoughts on Infernal Affairs.
What I regret about "Infernal Affairs" is:
First, the love scene as Liu Jianming (played by Andy Lau) and Merry (played by Zheng Xiuwen) is thin and bland. Of course, the director put a lot of effort into creating the character of M, because as a writer, the development of the protagonist of the novel that M is writing is consistent with the development of the fate of the protagonist of the film's story, moving in the same direction. It was a deliberate creation by the editor and director, and it was a shrewd arrangement. It can also be said that a little change will add a lot to the film, but unfortunately. As the actor of M, it seems contrived and failed to grasp the rhythm of the performance and tap into the personality characteristics of a writer.

Second, what I am most dissatisfied with is that there is no creativity at the end of the film, which does not push the film to a higher level and falls into a cliché. Therefore, some netizens commented that "Infernal Affairs" is only 0.03 cm away from becoming a classic. I agree very much, the difference of 0.03 cm is here. As I am very respected for this film, I have repeatedly praised this film to my friends. But you can't always say that "Baoyu is slightly flawed" to give yourself or others an excuse. Chinese films are harmed by too many "slightly flawed treasures". If you can't do it, you can't do it. Just keep your head down and learn. Why do you give yourself so many excuses?

What makes me happy about "Infernal Affairs" is that it is worthy of praise:
1. The success and richness of characterization, and the vivid and connotative characters are depicted in some details. For example, Xiao Yaxuan only appeared on the camera for 1 minute, but it left a deep impression on people and enriched Chen Yongren's historical image. Secondly, the image of the underworld younger brother "Silly Strong" is very vivid. It's a pity that Liu and M didn't play roles.
2. From the perspective of the script, the awareness of "point" in this film is very well used, which makes the film tense and full of rhythm, deeply leads the audience to transform into unexpected places, and gives the audience constant surprises and expectations. The use of "dot" in the script comes from the Hollywood script creation method. In general, every good film has a "point". Of course, this cannot generalize everything. For example, European life-oriented films and some postmodern films have broken the role of "dots". I personally appreciate the last "dot" application. And because of this, I am intoxicated and get sublimated enjoyment and satisfaction. This is also how to judge the pros and cons of a movie. Maybe it's stubbornness or prejudice. But I enjoy my stubbornness. For example, when Malena walked through the square with her husband at the end of The Beautiful Legend of Sicily, what we saw was a silent protest, a kind of broad tolerance and acceptance of fate, and a kind of The ease of life. I am proud of Malena and her husband. I love this type of movie. Such good films are also "The Pianist", in which the last point: the cry for help of the imprisoned German officer; the last point in "The Pianist": sinking into the sea with the piano; the last point of "Sunny Day": "The Ancient Road" Mother" shouted: "Fool!" Wallace's cry at the end of "Braveheart": FREEDOM! "Stimulus 1995" final "Beautiful Never Dies" "Don't Ask Who I Am" aka "The English Patient" final: the scene where the nurse is going to kill herself by injecting herself with a lot of morphine, etc. I love them! I was deeply moved by them!
3. This is what I think is the biggest contribution of this film, and also a contribution to the film industry. That is, "open-ended" characterization. Thanks to the screenwriter! Thanks to the director! In other words, the fashionable words are: " To put it simply, a character in the play can make the audience participate in speculation, imagination, create together, and enrich the character in the audience's imagination, including his past and future. In a word, the director Let the audience work together to create the characters in the film, and leave the ending of the characters to the audience's thinking and results. Such as: Chen Yongren and Chen Huixian's love story, Chen Yongren and Xiao Yaxuan's encounter, Chen Yongren's undercover experience, stupid and strong Stories and judgments, etc., all attract the audience to participate in the thinking and creation.
This is a very wonderful attempt and acquisition! This should be a direction for the future development of the film——experience.
At the same time, this also shows a humble attitude of the director or screenwriter. Because everyone has a story. We respect everyone. Everyone lives in this world equally.
Therefore, these achievements have made the director's success in shaping the characters.
I like Infernal Affairs.
