At the beginning of the story, Victoria and Ricardo talk for a long night, Ricardo asks: "Don't you have another man?" Several other aunts also fell into it, "I made 10 million!" "I also bought a few hundred shares" "Be sure to keep it, it will go up!" Victoria said, it is not an exchange, but an arena. And the line that came to my memory seemed to simply be "The Colosseum." When the stock market crashed, everything became a bubble. Piero said, "Sell it, what else can I do?" Only Victoria and her mother said that "the stock goes up and down", and only Victoria knows that her mother is not someone who can heal by painting a few little flowers. Victoria is someone who cares about others. She always wants to capture that emotional moment, but she can't achieve it on others no matter what.

In a friend's house, wild animals are hunted by humans, and the limbs of animals are made into coffee tables, sculptures, and photographs of animals and tribal natives are hung on the wall as a kind of display and hunting. Victoria painted the appearance of black people and began to dance African dance recklessly, but she didn't know that it touched the memory of her friend and was stopped. In front of others, you always have to be careful when you show yourself, and even simply be a person who only praises others, marvels at everything in other people's bedrooms, and sings praises for all other people's experiences.

Piero's car was salvaged, Piero advised Victoria not to look, because the alcoholic who stole the car last night died in it. Piero said the body was fine. Victoria asks, are you only worried about the car? Piero said of course not, and the engine, engine maintenance is very troublesome. Victoria was a little sad, but instead embraced Piero. As Victoria herself said, if you want to love deeply, why do you need to know each other? (But if you don't understand each other, you won't love each other deeply). Because Victoria showed us what she wanted, she realized that what she wanted was there one second, but not the next. Victoria leaned against the window and said, "Why are you asking so many questions?" The more she asked, the less she liked it. But I don't understand, Victoria can't fall in love, because that's not the man she wants, so she doesn't get married. The man was very puzzled.

Piero found Victoria and said he had bought a new car, a BMW. Piero took Victoria to a big house. He said he didn't live here, he lived in a small apartment. Victoria asked: Why didn't you take me there? "From Victoria's point of view, crazy men, women, huge buildings, water tanks, cars, men and women getting on and off trams, smothered in nicotine smoke, piles of discarded stone bricks, building works under construction, pushing The babysitter of the stroller, the never-tiring water gun, the threat of nuclear weapons. The two finally found a moment of joy in Piero's small office, and they made an appointment to see you the day after tomorrow. Piero hung up all the busy ones one by one. On the phone, sitting in a chair contemplating. Victoria returned to the street, landscape after landscape unconnected to each other, but also connected to each other.

The name of the story "Eclipse", "Eclipse", in my understanding is that some kind of Shinning thing is obscured by something bigger and falls into the shadows. And the golden highlights on the edge of the silhouette may be what Victoria is looking for, as if she wants to find out where and what the Shinning thing is.

Antonioni fully reflects the predicament of Victoria's character through Vitti's performance. In 1962, the story made an interpretation of the relationship between a woman's inner spiritual needs and the surrounding world and landscape through images, and there was no interpretive sentence in the whole film. The lines can be described as very advanced expressions. Looking at it a few years later, I am very impressed with and love this work by Antonioni.

An impeccable beginning and end, with a stunning grasp of space, full of the alienation and indifference of a Carver-esque short story

(8.4/10) Monica Vitti's "distancing" performance, in contrast to Antonioni's spatial narrative, is alienated, indifferent, and unspeakable. Space seems to constitute the protagonist of the film. People exist depending on the space, or people constitute a part of the space, a kind of "landscape"-like existence. Just like the "landscape clip" at the end, people disappear, but space still exists.

L'Eclisse quotes

  • Vittoria: We spent the whole night talking things over. And for what? I'm so tired and depressed. Disgusted and confused. What can I say? There are times when holding a needle and thread, or a book, or a man - it's all the same.

  • Anita: Don't the hippopatami bother you?
