The El Capitan is the world's largest granite monolith with a height of 914 meters and is a sacred place for rock climbers. The protagonist, Alex, is the first person to climb the El Capitan with his bare hands. Freehand rock climbing: climbing without any equipment, relying solely on the strength of the fingers and the friction between the feet and the rock bumps.
Alex graduated from Berkeley and is a strict vegetarian. Climbing is more important to him than love. His girlfriend once made a mistake and caused Alex to fall. He thought of breaking up. In Alex's eyes, life is achievement, and in his girlfriend's eyes, life is happiness. People who are immersed in their own field and at ease, and focused to the point of being mean, are very attractive, but it is difficult to be around them.
Alex's family never said love, and his mother was stingy with praise, always feeling that his son was not good enough. My father was autistic and died a year after the divorce. Alex learned to hug at the age of 23, and only loves with actions.
Endless self-loathing is what drives free climbing. Free climbing is the closest to a dream because of its zero fault tolerance.
Waiting for every free climber is death, and any small mistake can lead to death on the cliff. They usually don't tell anyone about their climbing plans.
The day of the summit was the best day for Alex, but the worst day for director Guo Wei. Good friends can die in front of the camera at any time, and the recorder is himself.
After reaching the summit, Alex did not rest for a long time, and then started suspension training. Life does not usher in a happy ending because of reaching a certain goal, there is no such thing as a once and for all.
