Watch "Huo Yuanjia"

At 0:00 on January 25, 2006, I watched the movie "Huo Yuanjia" at Chengdu Oriental Century Cinema, bought a ticket for 30 yuan, found a seat in row 3 and sat down. The film begins with a subtitle: September 14, 1910, Shanghai.
Huo Yuanjia is one of my teenage idols. To me, "Huo Yuanjia" is a simple martial arts movie, not a generic martial arts movie. I haven't watched this kind of martial arts movie for many years. In fact, I was obsessed with martial arts when I was young. There are many magazines and books such as "Wulin" and "Fighting". I play sandbags every day, practice some boxing and internal skills according to the books, and get up at 5 o'clock every day to go to the mountains and turn somersaults... So I am a martial arts complex. People, so such a movie that promotes the spirit of martial arts can easily infect me. In the movie theater, my blood boils, as if returning to a teenager.
As a movie in itself, it's just a mediocre, well-made film. Of course, Jet Li's performance in this film has already reached the best level he can perform. The plot and structure of the film are very simple, basically 60% fighting + 30% expressing feelings. Yuan Heping's martial arts design is not surprising (this is also expected), and it is slightly inferior to the "Fighting Heroes" they collaborated with many years ago.
But this is indeed a rare film for many years that purely promotes the spirit of martial arts, with almost no other elements. If you like the spirit of martial arts (there are probably very few such people), then you must watch it, it is best to go to the cinema, I believe it will cheer you up. Otherwise, chances are you'll get bored, like the couple sitting behind me.

Preaching is unavoidable. Many great directors also inevitably preach in the works of specific historical periods. The biggest problem with this film (140-minute cut version) is that it subverts the traditional kung fu model to form a bizarre and absurd character spectrum: in the film, it seems that only the protagonist Huo Yuanjia (once) has a dark and destructive tendency, and his opponents at various stages Feeling better than him? Master Qin's anger and hurting people are understandable. The strong players in the United States, France and Japan in the back arena can quickly realize the good intentions and stop fighting to pay tribute. Even Zhao Jian, who has been feuding since a small period of time, fell into the ring and was willing to bet and admit defeat, but his disciples were not like the Huo family disciples. That way of eating, drinking, prostitution, gambling, provoking right and wrong, causing a big disaster... This kind of "inexplicable bad when it's dark / good will rise up the reincarnation of the Bodhisattva" seems to be innovative and complicated, but in fact it is rigid and contrived, and makes the preaching part let go. People feel more embarrassed and conflicted. It is far better to maintain a line from beginning to end. Chivalry is always full of humanity, and the children have different personalities and lively interests. That's right! It is Huang Feihong that Jet Li himself played. As the saying goes: Generals always win only because they know how to choose the battlefield, and they need to do what they can. Hengzhuan: I also preached once!

It's actually quite outrageous to make a biography of a martial arts master so blunt and sensational. How to say it is like in times of famine, when you can’t get enough to eat, you force-feed you a handful of spiritual opium, and tell you that you are done with martial arts and patriotism.
