"Late Night" - a classic snake-bite ending segmented horror film

The feeling of ending a three-day holiday with a good horror film is too satisfying. I like this kind of segmented horror film the most. Many horror experiences are still used by word of mouth, especially the story of puppet murder, "Dead Silence". ", "American Horror Story: Freak Show", "The Odd Tan", "The Humanoid" and so on, the global universal children's sense of terror is readily available, which can be described as a necessary medicine for home life.

The film begins with a person telling his nightmare and gradually discovers that the nightmare comes true, interspersed with five horror stories, actually six horror stories, and the fateful ending of the nightmare cycle is quite classic. A group of people tell the incredible events that happened to themselves or their friends to counter the psychiatrist's theory of everything, mysticism and rationalism have a violent conflict, and finally become another unsolved mystery in the empirical world. The male protagonist finds that the warnings in the nightmare gradually come true, and it is extremely curious, and one after another, either terrifying or absurd, can not make people relax. The final puppet story and the scene where the male protagonist realizes the murder in his dream is a complete story. The most terrifying and exciting part of the film is that several stories are strung together in close-ups and quick edits to push the whole film to a climax.

First story:

A man who survived a car accident hallucinations saw a driver tell him "there's one more place". A few days later, he met a bus conductor who was exactly the same as the driver. The man escaped because he didn't get on the bus.

I have heard of this weird story for a long time, and many versions are from Beijing in the 1990s. It seems that the whole world likes death who greets politely.

Second story:

A young girl is playing hide-and-seek at a friend's house, but she encounters a little boy who was beheaded by her sister in the room.

This kind of story is common in all kinds of weird school talk. At first glance, it feels warm and sad, but it belongs to the slow-warming type of nonsense after thinking about it. After all, as the audience, we don’t expect the little boy to talk and talk. It's not appropriate to drop the scene.

Third story:

The fiancée gave her husband an ancient mirror, but unexpectedly there was a paralyzed An Jia and a ghost hidden in the ancient mirror, and she had to fight the ghost to defend her marriage.

There is also a rule of thumb in horror films. Buying old things casually sometimes not only improves taste and knowledge, but also helps to refresh the three views.

Fourth story:

Two golf friends fight for the same girl, the loser commits suicide, and the man who turns into a ghost after his death finds out that the other party is actually a cheater, so the rhythm of the second half completely becomes the style of a Hong Kong-style funny ghost movie .

The only ghost story in the whole film that is made up to soothe the atmosphere.

Fifth story:

The man who knew ventriloquism and his partner puppet turned their faces, and it was still unknown who would kill the deer.

One of the best thriller atmospheres in the whole film, people can't completely tell whether this is a typical case of schizophrenia or a terrifying experience of demon possession, but the moment when the man who killed the puppet turned his head and spoke like a puppet was really terrifying, There's no need for dripping blood or throwing heads to feel the terror.

Sixth story:

This is a horror story that runs through the main line of the whole film. The male protagonist came to a house in the suburbs and was anxious to find that it was the same scene as one of his own nightmares, and even the experience was exactly the same. He clearly knew that uncontrollable horror events would happen next. However, he was unable to save himself and others, and in the end he could only let the incident slide into the terrifying abyss. And the most terrifying thing is that this nightmare will never end.

[8.1] The segmented plot, it seems that each story is independent, but in fact they are all related to each other. In the end, all the stories are strung together, plus an infinite loop ending, which is really amazing. . The point is this is a 1945 film. . Now we are all playing with the rest? The story of the doll at the end is the best, and the story of the mirror is the stupidest. .

Dead of Night quotes

  • [Talking about the mirror:]

Peter Cortland: But in a queer sort of way, it fascinates me. I feel as though that room, the one in the mirror, were trying to... to claim me. To draw me into it. It almost becomes the real room, and my own bedroom imaginary.

[He takes a drag off his cigarette with a shaking hand]

Peter Cortland: And I know that there's something waiting for me on the other side of the mirror. Something evil. Monstrously evil. And if I cross that dividing line, something awful will happen.

  • [Golf buddies Larry and George, in a pub, are arguing over the beautiful Mary, whom they both desire, and who likes both of them. Mary sits crowded between them, yet they act as though she isn't there. All three look depressed, their chins slumped into their hands]

Larry Potter: I wish you were dead, old man.

George Parratt: It'd be just as good if you were.

Larry Potter: George! I've got it!

    George Parratt: What?

Larry Potter: We'll play for her!

George Parratt: Tomorrow morning. Eighteen holes!

    Larry Potter: Match play!

George Parratt: The loser to vanish from the scene.

    Larry Potter: Forever.

George Parratt: Put it there, then.

    [They shake hands]

Mary: Of course! Why didn't we think of it sooner!
