From an ordinary moral point of view, this is an extremely cold and cruel film.
Ryunosuke is like a devil, heading towards the road of destroying others and ultimately destroying himself.
It is interesting to recall Ryunosuke who just debuted. An old man on a pilgrimage prayed to the gods for an early death so that his granddaughter would be free and her own happiness. Ryunosuke seemed to hear his call, stepped forward, and beheaded the old man.
It's hard to tell whether he heard the old man's call or just happened to pass by. Either way, the old man's wish came true, and Ryunosuke saved him. But we are accustomed to thinking about the protagonist, so we are entangled in why Ryanosuke kills the old man so unreasonably and cruelly over the result that the old man is freed. After that, Ryunosuke behaved calmly and restrained. He exchanged a woman's chastity for the honor of a samurai, but the biggest concession he could make was a draw with the weak, if not being attacked.
Everything has established rules, and he is the king and sanctioner within these rules. Anyone who violates the rules will be punished. So there is the classic beheading paragraph in the poster scene.
The brawl at the end reminded me of Wu Song who was blood-splattered in Yuanyanglou. There are two monks in "Water Margin", one is the flower monk Lu Zhishen, and the other is the walker Wu Song. The spirituality of Lu Zhishen seems to be well understood by everyone. I have always wondered why the author arranged for Wu Song to become a monk. Wu Song is an extremely paranoid person. He is more like a Catholic. It can be seen from the section on fighting the tiger that Li Kui killed the tiger for revenge, the brothers Xie killed the tiger to make a living, and Wu Song killed the tiger to survive. "Survival" runs through Wu Song's life. He does not have excessive desires, but when he faces persecution, it is not like Lin Chong can't bear to take another shot, but if someone offends me, I will repay it twice. Such a paranoid became a host after losing his arm. The psychological process is the most interesting.
Not crazy, not Buddha, it seems that people have to reach an extreme state, and then freed from it, in order to complete the cultivation of Buddhahood.
Ryunosuke reproduced the state of Wu Song before becoming a Buddha after the madness, and made beheading people an extreme art. Of course, no one knows whether he can become a Buddha, because no one knows whether he can survive or not.
Before he was enchanted, he was as pure as Li Kui.
Li Kui was very controversial in "Water Margin", because when he rescued the execution ground, he chopped innocent people like a knife. Heavenly Slaughter Star Li Kui, just as we ignore the result of Ryunosuke's liberation of the old man, if these people killed by Li Kui are replaced by Lu Xun's spectators, we will understand some of what this Heavenly Slaughter Star has done.
So is Ryunosuke, his cruelty and ruthlessness cause discomfort to many normal people (people with basic morality). But in retrospect, he fulfilled the old man's wish; he let Wen Zhicheng die in the contest, free from the humiliation in life; he freed Abin, a woman who cheated herself in love with Ryunosuke by her mouth, and finally Recognize his own heart and sins (although such sins are completely taken seriously by feminists); he made the granddaughter of the old man meet his own happiness; similarly, Wen Zhicheng's younger brother, soldiers and horses, is not absolutely certain Killing Ryunosuke, who was killed by ten thousand people, is also a relief to him, because the desire to pursue the granddaughter of the old man is more urgent than revenge. (Otherwise, he would not have searched for the whereabouts of the old man's granddaughter when his master Toranosuke told him not to find anyone.) Ryunosuke freed everyone, accumulated the sins in his heart, and stepped into a state of madness.
The debate between art and morality is eternal, and Ryunosuke himself represents this debate, a guy who fits the old morality (samurai class) and rebels against humanity (refusing to maintain relationships). But is he beyond the realm of good and evil? In the face of Toranosuke's hesitation to use his sword, it shows his restraint and sobriety. Under this premise, after the chaos, Longanosuke will eventually reach a state where there is no need for a judgment of good and evil.
