Freak show

For me, the climax of the final battle is not particularly interesting. What I like is the useless part of the super powers, the part of the circus freak show, the freaks rather than the super heroes.

For example, the bee boy, the old-fashioned Yingmeng boy, the dead brother and sister of the Hercules, the girl with two mouths, the invisible twins, the light girl who would float in lead boots. The flame girl is good because it is not deliberately made but very everyday vinyl gloves. The transparent person is good in the standard of a good boy dress. The girl who let the plant grow is good because it is not good looking, and the puppet boy is good for self-entertainment. Happy, Miss Pei is good to become a bird, and the children's center is good to be a haunted house. As for their ability to upgrade to combat, it is not that interesting, so the first half of the movie is more fascinating, and of course my favorite is that the focus is always on personal taste (clothing), and some foresights that are not taken seriously. Li, the dream boy of the old movie fan.

From this perspective, the final battle is too Hollywood and emphasizes courage and positive emotions too much. The situation where the Eight Immortals cross the sea and show their magical powers is actually contradictory to the taste of the movie itself. Freaks are actually weak. Individuals may be stronger than ordinary people, but they are vulnerable to crowds. They are destined to be discriminated against and excluded. They can stay in orphanages and maintain their childhood status (no need to be grown up. Later social attributes, such as Jack’s grandfather, will always stay in the past time and space (only old photos are passed down), instead of being sold to the circus and sent to the laboratory. This is the best Yin Bulin can provide them Good protection. Only by realizing this kind of fun, there are weird places in the world around us that are cut off and hidden in time by the magic of Yinblin's time circle, can we grasp the charm of this movie.

  • Barron: [Emma is keeping Baron pinned against a wall by using her perculiarity] Eventually you're gonna run out of breath. And then it'll be all over. Death for your beloved Jake, and Miss Peregrine. Everlasting life for me.

[Barron takes a whiff of Emma's breath]

Barron: Ewww. And a mint for you!

  • Franklin Portman: [Sees a bird flying above the boat] Wow! Jake, check it out. That's a peregrine falcon.

Jake: A peregrine like the headmistress?

Franklin Portman: Sure... That's probably where Grandpa came up with that whole turning into a bird thing.

Jake: Maybe - Maybe that's really her!

[Turns to shout at the bird]

Jake: Hey, Miss Peregrine! It's me, Jake! I'm Abe Portman's grandson! Please, don't crap on us!

[Franklin gives him a horrified look]

Jake: Oh my God, Dad, I'm kidding.
