In 1995, "The Night of the Lost Soul of a Child's Dream" came out. It has been 4 years since the filming of "Black Shop Rhapsody", and there are still 6 years before the popular "Angel Amelie".
Crazy and weird again, I even think this is the best of all four. "Black Shop Rhapsody" was born (this term is really vulgar), "Amelie" and "A Long Engagement", the style of Rene and the demands of the market have been run in well. Sandwiched in the middle of "The Night of the Lost Soul of a Child's Dream", Genet actually continued the style of "The Rhapsody of the Black Shop", which is one step closer to the crazy road, and relatively far from the market.
The introduction of the film on impdb is as follows: Crazy scientists do not know how to dream before they get old, so they kidnap the children in the city and steal their sweet dreams. Unexpectedly, the children are frightened and their dreams will turn into nightmares. The circus boss found out that the little guy was missing, and together with the leader of the orphan party, he searched for the missing child together with the leader of the orphan party. Again, most of the time it's the feeling, not the plot. Just imagine that if you have to sort out "Angel Amelie" to the effect, it must be unbeautiful and crafty.
Still the main color yellow and green, still such a strange and impressive-looking actor. Mr. Jealousy in Emily and the uncle in the marriage contract appear again. Although they are not absolute protagonists, they also fill the whole film.
The most outstanding is of course the little girl. Reminds me of Haibara Ai in "Detective Conan", with a small stature and familiar thoughts, as if an adult is imprisoned in a child's body, more like Dunst's little vampire. In contrast to the big man, such a big man behaves like a child, strangely dislocated. There is a dialogue in this play, I forgot the original.
It's hard to say that the film is very good. It doesn't belong to the public's taste. The story is weirder than "Rhapsody in the Black Shop", but the thinking is deeper than that. The obscure themes are hidden in the strange plot, which makes people quite puzzled.
