Under the frenzied violence, the light of humanity dimmed.
Detroit, the "River of the Channel" in the rust belt, was full of contradictions in the recession of the 1960s. Due to the influx of blacks and the withdrawal of whites, the city's racial contradictions were very acute. At this juncture, police arrest a black man in a pub, leading to a riot. It's hard to believe that the government will use the Army, the National Guard, and the police to jointly suppress the riots, or in American cities. No wonder the characters in the movie say that they thought this was Vietnam.
The state's violent organs are on the lookout for civilian "snipers" everywhere, as if these people are soldiers of the enemy country. At this moment, in the "Algiers" small hotel, a young black man was attacked by the army and the police just because he used a toy pistol and made a gunshot. At the same time, some racists in the police also took advantage of this time to persecute black people.
Of course, no one can be rational under this pressure. But this is not an excuse for racists. If those black people are white, they will definitely not end up like this. Black people are always preconceived as criminals. Coupled with deep-rooted racism, they are in the beginning. an extremely passive position.
As the black youth said, the white cops don't care what you do, they just hit and shoot you just because you're black. And the trial of the three racist police officers is also very interesting. The defendant's lawyer will actually ask the witness what crime he has committed before. Just because he is black, he has to state some crimes that have nothing to do with him? Of course, the result of the trial must be that the white people are not guilty, and of course an all-white jury cannot make a fair verdict.
I remembered an article I learned last semester, Pony (Pony), because the protagonist encountered various difficulties and saw various hallucinations, and finally had to pick up the Bible. At the end of the film, one of the protagonists, because of fear of white people and the police, had to work in a choir. He sang the hymn at the end, could it be that only religion could comfort them?
Perhaps, the kingdom promised by Christ Jesus needs to be fought for by oneself. I think this point is also worth learning. The legitimate right is to have the courage to defend and fight for it. Although the road is long and difficult, there is still hope.
