Haven't read the original book, just recorded my opinion on the film itself.
Although the setting and the dark tone depict the atmosphere of some horror films, the overall sense of horror still remains at the level of discomfort caused by physical distortion and the level of turning back and killing at first glance. Although there is a good setting, there is no real horror feeling that continues with this setting.
The biggest attraction of this film is the magical land that can bring creatures back to life. But unfortunately, this magical land is only a functional prop in this film, and it does not play a more important role in rendering the horror atmosphere. Even the main creator didn't even bother to say anything about the origin of the magical power of this land. It feels more like: it doesn't matter if you buy it or not, that's how I designed it anyway.
The Stephen King works I've seen, whether it's spooky hotels or omnipresent clowns, have their own qualities to convey the horror of death, corruption, and danger, but more importantly, the evil presence of these objects/objects, Intertwined with the weaknesses of human nature, a more deeply rooted fear is derived.
For example, the male protagonist who lacked self-confidence in the Shining was taken advantage of by the haunted house to enter, and finally went berserk and murdered his wife and children. Like the death light in the clown's soul, he feeds on human terror and continues his threat to the town. These horrors are based on the weaknesses and mistakes of human nature, and use the path that is most easily overlooked (family, friendship and love) to cause harm to people.
From this point of view, the magical resurrection land is the same as the clown's haunted house. On the one hand, it is a gathering place of human weakness, and on the other hand, it is also a magnifying glass that strengthens terror damage. And the two are interdependent.
Compared with this film, it can be seen that the male protagonist and the female protagonist actually have human weaknesses: the male protagonist is a doctor, but he is more afraid of bloody scenes and the inability to save the patient; the female protagonist is often trapped in the twisted spine of the sisters. cannot extricate themselves from the past. The shortcomings of the two couples lie in the sense of regret and inability to change the fait accompli. If the cemetery and the male and female protagonists can be combined with such weaknesses and shortcomings, the effect may be better.
But unfortunately, this weakness of the male and female protagonists did not interact with the pet graves in this film. At the end of the day these two settings are only outputting low-end material to scare you. Especially the female protagonist sister, who made an amazing appearance, but the role is only to turn back and kill
In the end, the cat and daughter were resurrected and their temperament changed dramatically, and the previous nightmare of the male and female protagonists was more like a plot that had nothing to do with the two ends. Although the main creator is trying to unite the two lines, it is actually a failure. The clues are buried deep and will not be easily noticed.
Why does the male lead want to resurrect his daughter? What the film wants to express is that the male protagonist doesn't want to be unable to save his daughter like the black boy who couldn't save him before. In order to reinforce this reason, the plot also arranges for the black brother's grievance soul to appear to dissuade the male protagonist when he goes to the pet cemetery. . . But what most people understand is the deep and determined love a father has for his daughter. And it seems that the latter reason may be more able to explain the father's paranoia than the former.
And the horror of the film, even its coherence, is constantly weakened in this paradoxical plot. Aside from the reason for the girl's resurrection to watch the girl's revival, the second half of the film has changed from a horror film that mainly creates an atmosphere to a horror type film, and has completely gone to the road of horror of the common goods.
