So these emperor penguins have to travel a long journey multiple times a year to mate and produce offsprings. They have to endure months of starvation and winter storms in order for their babies to survive. In the whole process, many babies die, and many of the adult penguins don't survive themselves. All the deaths and losses were too much for me, even though it's the reality. These penguins really have a harsh life! It was depressing for me because I feel that their whole life is revolved around this , and is all this really worth it? I guess seeing that seal eating up penguins didn't help either... (Although, it makes me appreciate the life I have a lot more. :P)
The movie made the whole "finding the other half" mating ritual to be a romantic journey, but how romantic can it really be if they find a new mate every year? And the slow-motioned close-up penguin sex was kind of gross. ...
Anyways, I'm not saying this is a bad movie, nor it was a waste of time for me to watch it. But, I didn't really enjoy it as much as other people did. While it is certainly a beautiful film, and the baby penguins are adorable, I guess I just don't quite have the appetite for the cold, dark and dangerous life in Antarctica.
