man's growth

There is no magnificent background description of the era, and no surging and moving background music. However, the director's use of a flat and straightforward filming method did not show the weakness of the sacrifice of the 54th Army. Perhaps the real result of the war can make the audience more deeply rooted in freedom. No victory, no one lives, and certainly no one forgets them. The deeper experience of this movie for me is that the growth of the male protagonist is what we are most worthy of learning. Good friends should be strict and responsible for their soldiers, and even more responsible for their friends. The growth of a person is more than 90 minutes of male protagonist, the change of eyes! From flickering to steadfast.

The war scene is very magnificent, but I feel that the protagonist Matthew Broderick can't support this white officer. His baby-faced appearance is very interesting, and he plays against Freeman and Washington. It was set off very amateurishly. The final personal sacrifice is also deliberate. Although Denzel Washington in this film uses a consistent routine, it is still very appropriate to the role.

Title Card: The 54th Massachusetts Brigade lost over half its number in the assault on Fort Wagner. The supporting white brigades also suffered heavily before withdrawing... The fort was never taken... As word of their bravery spread, Congress at last authorized the raising of black troops throughout the Union. Over 180 thousand volunteered... President Lincoln credited these men of color with helping turn the tide of the war.

Maj. Cabot Forbes: WHAT THE *HELL* IS GOING ON HERE!

    [Everyone comes to attention]

Maj. Cabot Forbes: [to 10th Conn. soldier] What's your name! YES, *YOU*! I'm having you brought up on CHARGES!

Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins: Oh, there ain't no cause for that, sir.

Maj. Cabot Forbes: What's that, Sergeant?

Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins: I mean, sir. That it's just a soldiers' fight, sir.

    [Forbes nods understandingly]

Maj. Cabot Forbes: [to 10th Conn. soldiers] Alright, you men move along.

    [they leave slowly]

    Maj. Cabot Forbes: *MOVE IT*!

    [they leave faster]

Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins: [to 54th Mass. soldiers] Alright, men. Back to work. BACK TO WORK!
