As to why Gus left the Eagles, many said it was because he wanted to be friends with Griffiths. This is really important, but I feel like there are other reasons that people have overlooked.
First and foremost, Gus pursues the thrill of combat and a free life. It can be seen from the fact that the group of Eagles attended the banquet that Gus was very disgusted with such social occasions. However, as the Eagles conquered the long-held castle, the large-scale war also ended, and staying in the Eagles may lose more opportunities for fighting. Moreover, once being named a noble, it means more constraints exist, which are not in line with Gus's ideals. Only by leaving the Eagles can we continue to live unfettered and find more fighting opportunities. Also, I think Gus is someone who only submits to the strong. Part of the reason why he was willing to stay in the Eagles was because Griffith had beaten him, and he was unwilling. Later, his strength surpassed Griffith, and Griffith's status in his heart declined, so naturally he couldn't control Gus. I have only seen the first two movies of the theatrical version, so I don't know much about the Legend of Sword Wind. Please forgive me if my understanding is wrong~~ I will start watching the third part when I have time.
