good character

"The Wife" is all a woman can give. Meek is an inappropriate but appropriate word to describe a wife in the eyes of the world, and you can largely ignore her, because no matter how high her husband is, she is only fulfilling the responsibility of a wife to take care of her husband. But the protagonist of The Good Wife does more than that. The best part of the film is the characters, which are very delicately portrayed. On the surface, they seem to get along as harmoniously as those enviable old couples, and when the husband of the good wife is confirmed to have won the Nobel Prize for literature, she shows a sense of loss. This feeling is understandable. When someone close to you is honored, even if you sincerely congratulate you, people will inevitably think of themselves. In comparison, what is the meaning of my life? So the gap is formed, which is a door hidden by "The Good Wife". The truth behind the door is that this woman has paid far more than her life's time and feelings, but also her dreams and talents. She annihilated herself for the sake of a frequently cheating and mediocre husband. Most of these works and honors should belong to her. The reason for all this, the movie does not describe enough. She grew up in a time when society's injustice to women, and the foregone love between her and her husband, could not be expressed enough. If all this information is more convincing, then "The Wife" is even more pathetic, and the audience can better understand that in the couple's abnormal relationship, right or wrong has no meaning, and it is early in life. She is sympathetic but also genuinely loves her husband, so at the height of her imbalance and anger she cannot answer the question of why she married her husband. The pain that her husband endured, that he was inferior to his wife in writing, was real. The husband's death is even a blessing for the family, for the couple who are in a sense sympathetic. No need to tear apart your past self.

Always meet Meg Wolitzer at special moments in life: The Interestings translated three years ago, The Wife now...so I want to read The Ten-year Nap. By the way, I hope the Chinese translation of The Interestings will come out smoothly.

Husbands and wives both suffer on the opposite side of the ordinary and the genius, and when they become us, it is so perfect!

The Wife quotes

  • Joan Castleman: I can't do it anymore, Joe. I can't do it. I can't take it. I can't take the humiliation of holding your coat and arranging your pills and picking the crumbs out of your beard and being shoved aside with all the other wives to talk about some goddamn shopping trip while you, while you say to all the, the gathering sycophants that your wife doesn't write! Your wife, who just won the Nobel Prize!

Joe Castleman: So, if I'm such an insensitive and talentless fucking piece of shit, why the fuck did you marry me?

  • Joan Castleman: There's nothing more dangerous than a writer whose feelings have been hurt.
