I watched the original English version on the Malaysia Airlines flight back to Chongqing. There are no Chinese subtitles, only English subtitles, but it hardly affects the entire viewing experience. Once again be impressed by the Hollywood cartoons. This is obviously a story for adults.
Fortunately, I didn't know the Chinese translation of the name into "The Snow Monster Adventure" when I was watching the movie, otherwise I would be pissed off. Because this movie is obviously not about us humans as the protagonists, the protagonist of the whole story is this snowy species called yeti. They have been living a "lie" thinking that they are an individual world created by stones living alone on the cloud. And for smallfoot, that is, humans, it's just a legend of the past. I have to admit that the film's positioning of yeti is some kind of advanced creature, and the anthropomorphic way of life makes them curious and want to explore the world under the cloud, so that the story exists. Therefore, when they break through the rules that have been followed for generations and come to the human world under the cloud, they discover that smallfoot really exists, and its number and development are amazing. The human language they sound is the same as human listening to their language, it is a meaningless "quack" sound.
At this time, you will probably know where the contradiction in the story is - the contradiction between humans and new creatures, which is very common. The second thing about this story that makes me feel the same is that the only protagonist of human beings is set to be an adult, not a regular child. We all know that in most stories that break through traditional human cognition, the protagonists are generally children + teenagers. Why? Because when an adult with enough cognition and enough common sense encounters an unfamiliar environment and new things, the first reaction must be hostility, resistance, fear and rejection. This is also the reason why many new species stories will feature children as the protagonists. The process of children growing up is a process of constantly expanding their understanding of the world. Any new things that appear will not be hostile to them, and will be regarded as new things. Accept it, and then there will be a continuation of the warm story. So I think that this movie takes adults as the human protagonists, which itself shows that children may not understand the story.
So, for the first time, this adult saw the legendary giant creature appear alive in front of him, what was his reaction? Still fear, rejection, confrontation and killing. And adults are selfish, even if they are friendly for a while, but as long as they pose a threat, they are still dead. This is why yeti uses a series of precise lies and rules of population life to shield everyone's eyes from expanding cognition, because only in this way can their survival be protected. Human beings have always slaughtered the creatures that pose a threat to themselves.
At this time, the story has risen to a certain height! You will be wondering, how to resolve this contradiction? How does the story end? Can the yeti continue to live after humans discover their existence? Of course, as a cartoon, it must be a big reunion solution, but the one who can contribute to this successful solution and take this step bravely is not our human beings, but yeti. This is really a big slap in the face of our human beings.
I think the ending of this film is a kind of good expectation from the director and the screenwriter for human beings. It is still my favorite sentence to sum up this article: have courage and be kind.
