sucks!

Word of advice: Don't go see this movie. It sucked. I can easily say it's the worst movie I've seen this year.

It just didn't live up to expectations. I thought it was going to be a treasure hunt movie, it wasn't. It started out with Matthew McConaughey and Steve Zahn looking for a battleship that was lost during the Civil War, but ended up with them going on an adventure to save the world from getting water poisoned. Oh, and Penelope Cruz is involved too. Her acting is just so bad... "Oh, DAAAMN-IT, my bag." in her super slow accented English was just too much for me to bear.

Dialogs are cheesy, nothing was believable, the villains had no bite, the good guys never get hurt no matter how dangerous the situation is, and everything that needs to happen just conveniently happened. OK, so all popcorn movies are like that, but this one is worse. The storyline was just not strong enough to draw me in; I was bored out of my mind half way through the film.

I wish I would've gone to watch "Fever Pitch" instead. :P

Sahara quotes

  • General Zateb Kazim: Don't worry. It's Africa. Nobody cares about Africa.

  • Al Giordino: Hey, you know how it is when you see someone that you haven't seen since high school, and they got some dead-end job, and they're married to some woman that hates them, they got, like, three kids who think he's a joke? Wasn't there some point where he stood back and said, "Bob, don't take that job! Bob, don't marry that harpy!" You know?

    Dirk Pitt: Your point?

Al Giordino: Well, we're in the desert, looking for the source of a river pollutant, using as our map a cave drawing of a Civil War gunship, which is also in the desert. So I was just wondering when we're gonna have to sit down and re-evaluate our decision-making paradigm?

Dirk Pitt: [coming up on the fortress seen in the cave painting] I don't know - it seems to be working so far.
