"Morris" is one of my favorite movies I watch every day for a while! ! ! I like each of the vivid and different characters in it. "Morris" is considered an unsurpassed monument in the history of gay love movies. After the film was released, it caused a great response. The star James Wilby said that he had received numerous letters from Japanese female college students and homosexuals. Because the theme is limited by the age, only the Oscar's best costume design was nominated at that time. The film was three hours long before it was released, but the final version was cut for more than half an hour. Next, I will analyze the differences and advantages and disadvantages of the two versions, the original version and the release version.

We first use the method of AB story analysis (A story represents the surface development of the story, and B story represents the inner growth of the protagonist) to stroke the core story about the protagonist.

A story: Maurice Hall, born in the middle class, and Clive Durham, the upper class, met in Cambridge. The emotionally dull and innocent Maurice and the elegant and funny scholar Clive soon started Plato. spiritual love. In the relationship between the two, Clive always played a dominant role, and Morris was deeply influenced by it. He accepted Plato and rebelled against Christianity. Whether it was a confession or a breakup, Clive proposed it. There are many reasons for the breakup. What is emphasized in the show is that Clive was directly stimulated by Lisley's imprisonment for same-sex behavior, coupled with the pursuit of a political career, gave up his love with Morris and returned to the mainstream. Since then, Morris has been struggling on the road of lovelorn and self-denial. He has sought medical treatment everywhere, and even accepted hypnotism to "treat" his homosexual "disease". On the other hand, Clive seems to have completely become a normal person, receiving Morris with dignity, apparently happy for him to find a girlfriend, but in fact, he hopes that Morris will always be by his side in such obscurity. Morris finally met Elek, the servant of the Clive family who loved him deeply. At the end of the film, Elek gave up his future for Morris and lived in seclusion with him in Qiulin, achieving a blending and sharing of spirit and flesh.

Story B: In the development of the story, the protagonist has gone through the psychological process of clumsiness and slowness - affectionate singleness - self-denial - self-confidence and elegance - self-acceptance. The protagonist is chaotic at first, his self-style is not firm, everything follows Clive, to the final psychological process of forbearance, understanding and sticking to himself, and building self-confidence.

The main contents of the released film were deleted: 1) Clive's arrogant behavior to Morris before he left for Greece, accusing him of being cruel to his family, but he didn't dare to be disrespectful to himself, and threw him at him. The paper slipped into Morris's bed and left. 2) Morris, after separating from Clive, had a very unforgiving behavior, he seduced a 16-year-old boy who was a guest at his house, and tried to have intimate contact with women but failed. 3) Morris said more before running to Elek, before saying goodbye to Clive: "You care a little bit about me, but I can't live on that little bit, you're with Anna , don't need it, but the spirit is still in love with the body, you only know that it is very valuable, and it is worth putting your life on it, you can only give me a short five minutes from her and politics, I can't put my life on it Pin it on this, you leave me in your house, and you are happy, and you go to great lengths to get me married, so that you can get rid of me as a burden, you don't love me. If you are willing to keep my relationship with me, I will die It belongs to you, but I belong to someone else now...".

These deleted contents have a great effect on the understanding of the movie. The deleted movie makes the characters’ behaviors and emotions more restrained, forbearance and obscure. Therefore, there are many biased interpretations of Clive’s sudden change of heart. After deleting the clips, aside from the actual development of the original novel and the character archetypes, it is obvious that Clive in the film is selfish in love, and his gay identity is incomplete. He may have liked Morris, but he abandoned Morris under the pressure of the world and his own development. In addition, he is far from loving Morris as much as Morris loves him. Some time before the breakup, it can be seen that he loves Morris. His impatience and disgust, such as his ignorance of Morris's words, the indifference he showed when he unbuttoned his cufflinks, and that Morris' beard was ugly. Clive's homosexuality is incomplete in that he has no desire for bodies of the same sex, and he is attracted to women (Morris's sister and Anna).

The deleted part is more multi-faceted in the portrayal of the image of Morris. The forbearing Morris would actually do things to seduce underage boys and women, which shows how tormented he was in the days after breaking up. These bridges It plays an important role in portraying the difficult road of Morris's psychological construction and growth, that is, our B-story, but it is also different from Morris' forbearance character. The director may also be afraid that the audience will not accept the ugly side of the protagonist and choose to delete the entire paragraph. Lose. But even the most forbidding person will have an outbreak, and I don't think there is anything wrong with these clips.

All in all, the deleted videos are more restrained and their emotions are more subtle, which is likely to cause more interpretations with different opinions.
