Darkness in Darkness (this is not a movie review)

This is not a movie review, it's a personal opinion

This story can be understood as a woman who is hopelessly in love with a scumbag and dedicates her life to this scumbag. This part of the content accounts for 95% of the content of the movie. But the last part confuses me.

The male protagonist suffers from a heart attack, and finally asks the female protagonist if he loves him. The female protagonist said love, and the male protagonist smiled and said: You are too good at lying, how can I tell the difference.

Later on the plane, the heroine warned the biographer not to scribble. The heroine's expression is relaxed, with the attitude that I have settled for you. When she turned around and found that her son heard these conversations, the hostess was still surprised, and said that when she got home, she would talk to the children about all the things. Finally she opened a new page of the notebook and began to stroke.

what a confident expression

She was surprised to see her son hear the conversation

It's finally time to start a new life.

So I wondered, which of the two of them was taking advantage of the other. As explained earlier in the story, when they were young, female writers had no chance at all (sexism), and a female senior said that a writer's work must be read to make sense. So on the one hand, the female lead does have feelings for the male lead, and on the other hand, she knows that she needs to find a channel to let the world see her book.

She is also using the male lead. The part that the male protagonist uses her is told in the story of the movie, so I won't repeat it here.

Therefore, when the highest honor for a writer, the Nobel Prize for Literature was announced, the heroine deeply felt that her previous efforts had been recognized, but this recognition was detained on the male protagonist. But you must know that these years, the male protagonist did not suddenly become famous. She didn't break out until the highest honor came, what she pursued, what she pursued through that channel (the world's recognition), was worn on the male lead, and the female lead was somewhat unacceptable.

My personal guess is that they are actually using each other, and I dare not say that there is no love between them, but this relationship of mutual benefit is the other side of maintaining their relationship. This relationship has not experienced too much wind and a lot of wind before. One of the reasons behind it is that the highest honor that the heroine pursued has not been promulgated (Nobel Prize for Literature). When it appeared, the mentality collapsed.

Therefore, the translated name of the Taiwan version of the movie is called "Love Deception". Behind love and deception, there are hidden relationships that are not easy to find. This may explain the last words of the hero. Behind love (marriage) may just be a balance between interests. When there is an imbalance, love (marriage) will collapse.

Of course, this is my personal wild guess and may have turned into bullshit. But one thing can be confirmed, the heroine is not too sad for the death of the hero, she regards it as a relief and freedom. Of course, we can also say that after being oppressed by the male protagonist all his life, he should be relieved and free at this moment.

Extended Reading

In the current trend of feminism, one can almost guess the ending after reading the beginning. The story itself is too simplistic, dramatic, and masked, and the pattern is very small, but it gives enough space for dramatic conflict to brew. Overall disappointing, of course Glenn Close's performance was convincing.

The most irritating thing is that the reality is indeed the case. No matter how good the female lead is in writing, she cannot be as successful as a male writer. The male protagonist is flawed, but the female protagonist is still inseparable from him, not even in such a tacky and predictable ending. Alas...PS Uncle Tie's son doesn't have the tough temperament of Uncle Tie~
