Unruly desires and fears

The uncontrollable desires and fears of "Rivals". Duty teachers, bohemian actors, seemingly unrelated, they have exactly the same faces. What impact will a so-called meeting have on his life? The first feeling after watching the film was that the film seemed to be too short. The director spent a full 50 minutes setting up their respective status quo, and the whole film was only 91 minutes in total. The plot after the meeting can be unfolded to a greater extent, fully expressing the kind of interconnection, common demise, and rebirth. The director used the spider symbol several times throughout the film. I personally understand that this is a symbol of the male protagonist's inner desires and fears. On the one hand, he longs for the excitement of extramarital affairs, on the other hand, he is afraid of another self. Jack Gyllenhaal's performance is also considered to add to the film a lot. 5 points. ps: I still like the handling of the ending scene!

Enemy quotes

  • Anthony: Control, it's all about control. Every dictatorship has one obsession and that's it. In ancient Rome they gave the people bread and circuses. They kept population busy with entertainment but other dictatorships used other strategies to control ideas, the knowledge... how do they do that? Lower education, they limit culture, censor information, they censor any means of individual expression and is important to remember this, that this is a pattern, that repeats itself through out history.

  • Teacher at School: Where There's a Will There's a Way.

    Anthony: It's true.

Teacher at School: No, it's a movie, I saw it a little while ago but um... I remember it was... I liked it.

    Anthony: Hmm. Where There's a Will There's a Way.

Teacher at School: Yeah, that's it. Local film, if you...

Anthony: I'll keep it in mind.
