Text | Three thousand years old

After watching movies for so many years, I have never seen such a successful screen image in a movie.

She, clean, ethereal, melancholy, clear, full of curiosity about the outside world, but trembling and groping forward.

Sisters Anna and Isabelle have diametrically opposite personalities, and the same thing is: they are tasting the bitterness of life and the hardships of growing up. Similar to the ground breaking and jointing of plants, every subtle movement is painful.

A movie "Frankenstein" was being shown in the relatively isolated village, and at that moment Anna buried the seeds of ghosts in her heart.

Quite a wonderful close-up of the shot, with dark surroundings, bright face, almost expressionless face and deep eyes with curiosity and anxiety about the world.

Director Victor Ellis's film debut "The Hive Ghost" is one of the most important works in Spain in the 1970s.

I prefer to divide it into two images of "beehive" and "ghost". My father is a beekeeper, and the glass windows in the house are the design of the honeycomb structure. This image is an adult's cage.

The actions of Frankenstein in the movie buried the seeds of ghosts in Anna's heart, which is the confusion in the girl's heart.

The movie "Hive Ghost" can be said to have a direct impact on the filming of Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth". "Top" replaced Frankenstein with "Beast" in the movie. We all know top I am quite beast complex, and the recent "The Shape of Water" is also an award-winning film of the Golden Image Award and the Golden Lion Award.

However, which is better or worse, the audience knows for themselves.

I still think it's better to start with the characters. The movie is actually the story of a family of four plus a maid.

Father, beekeeper, work at sunrise and rest at sunset, living a regular and orderly life.

In the middle of the movie, the two sisters were taken to the wild to pick mushrooms and taught them to identify poisonous mushrooms.

The coat, pocket watch, and shoes were stolen by Anna and given to the fleeing soldiers. This detail is the deepest chasm between father and daughter, which has been insurmountable for a long time.

Mother, in the movie, she is always writing letters and riding a bicycle to send letters.

She has a lover in the war (Spanish Civil War), is dissatisfied with the status quo, and wants to break free. Letter seems to be the only contact with the outside world, and it is also the only weapon to break through the inherent shackles.

There is one point that needs to be emphasized here. Whether the unfamiliar soldier who looked at his mother at the station, the soldier who was killed in the middle, and his mother burned the letter at the end, whether the portrait of the soldier in the upper right corner of the envelope is the same person, I personally prefer not.

Mother sends letter to soldier met at station

There is no doubt that my mother had a lover who participated in the Spanish Civil War. The film also intends to use this to allude to the Civil War and express the thinking and anxiety of ordinary people in the turbulent situation.

There is an extreme rebellious character in the mother's character, but the family story does not have a framed shot in the director's shot. This deliberate alienation and separation is an expression of its own, and everyone has a separate emotion throughout. always.

This is exactly the opposite of Hirokazu Koreeda, who likes to take family photos very much.

Sister Isabelle lies on the ground to frighten sister Anna by playing dead. She knows that Frankenstein has been rooted in her sister's heart for a long time, and the outline of ghosts in her heart has gradually become clear.

This non-obstructive psychological feature I think is necessary for growth, and it is also the most profound part of the film in my opinion.

Growth is bound to be accompanied by bitterness and pain, but it cannot be restrained to move forward. This is generally the case in life, and no one can escape.

When Anna's actions were discovered by her father, there was fear in her uneasy eyes. She did not know that she had stepped into a very dangerous situation, and she also put her father in an extreme situation.

I believe that Anna also knows that it is a poisonous mushroom, and she also wants to taste the taste.

Eventually, Anna was found behind the broken wall described by her sister. Spend the night alone outside at a very disproportionate age. Anna dreamed of Frankenstein and wanted to pick poisonous mushrooms.

Anna doesn't understand the little girl who died by the river in Frankenstein, or the Spanish soldier who was killed in the shabby house.

One fact and one fact, the blood in front of Anna is not far away. The shadow of the ghost will accompany Anna for a long time, and then affect her personality establishment.

However, these are growth processes that cannot be omitted. Just like a tree, it leaves the growth rings in the body, piles up the vastness, loneliness and bitterness, and still thrives.

The film has a high artistic level, and the soundtrack is ethereal and distant. The lights in the room, the close-up of the mother playing the piano, the sound of the door opening, and then the delivery of letters on a bicycle. Tranquility, loneliness, and serenity are the overall tone of the film.

A kind of fluidity like mercury leaking to the ground, the lonely life and the pain of growing up have a poetic expression. I secretly thought that "The Hive Ghost" is the benchmark for a good movie, and I have watched it three times.

I understand that all this is not enough.

The Spirit of the Beehive quotes

  • Isabel: Papa, have you ever picked a bad mushroom?

    Fernando: No. You know why?

    Isabel: Why?

Fernando: Because I always do like my grandfather told me.

[he gets up and starts to walk; the girls follow]

Fernando: If you're not sure a mushroom's good, don't pick it. Because if it's bad, and you eat it, it's your last mushroom and your last everything too.

  • [last lines]

Isabel: It's me, Ana... It's me, Ana...
