Geniuses are mostly lunatics, and sometimes idealists too.
Lisa's work ability is outstanding, her children are healthy and smart, and her lover is always by her side, giving her encouragement and comfort from time to time, and everything is in order.
But from the beginning, the film tells us through many lonely and depressed shots that she does not feel happy, and even feels gloomy.
In a few clips of interactions with her family, we can see why she is unhappy.
For Lisa, the reality is too much.
A palm-sized mobile phone screen can’t wander thoughts, and photography tied to social media can’t feel the birth of beauty. The home she needs should be an activity place for outstanding individuals, and the outstanding individuals she identifies with should have spiritual pursuits beyond the mundane. Yet you are no different from them, no different here and there, fast food, marijuana, divided personal space, all of which have accelerated Lisa's depletion and explosion.
Things and reality may have reached abundance, but the human spirit will not stop stretching. She wants to pursue spiritual comfort beyond the material basis, and obtain transcendent and surreal abundance.
Poetry is her spiritual hope, and Jimmy is the spark that ignites that hope.
Two scenes about the body: one is interrupted by poetry, the other occurs because of poetry
After arguing with his son and getting angry, the husband who was in love with each other gave Lisa a hug and comfort in time, and the first scene about the body started from this. Lisa's phone rang when the two were about to fit together, and she knew it was Jimmy and his poetry. She immediately jumped out of her body's passion, and ran to answer the phone with her half-naked body. Her husband asked "Really?" in disbelief. Her husband understood her, so he walked away silently.
Lisa went to the poetry teacher and was delighted to know that she was selected by the teacher and would continue to study in the poetry class and participate in a small poetry club. Later, she took the initiative to have a relationship with the poetry teacher, which is the second part of the scene about the body. Lisa loves poetry too much. In her eyes, this male poetry teacher is the embodiment of abstract poetry. Being invaded by the male teacher represents her willingness to dedicate herself to poetry. This scene about the body is not as passionate as the previous one. It is more calm and indifferent. It is more like a ritual, like a sacrifice to the spirit and ideals. Completion expresses complete devotion to poetry. Perhaps from here, Lisa made up her mind that no matter what the cost, she must protect the fire of Jimmy for the sacred poetry.
The two scenes are just in contrast. On the one hand, the passion that represents the body is interrupted by poetry that represents the spirit; Here, the body becomes the expression and continuation of the spirit.
Jimmy's talent: inadvertently blooming
Who is Anna?
Lisa taught him a lot of answers, none of which were as classic as Jimmy's.
Anna could be anyone you love. For me, she is my kindergarten teacher's helper Meghan.
The treasure of Jimmy, inadvertently, bloomed so plainly. What a poetic and profound answer this is, the five-and-a-half-year-old young man in front of him is an innate poet through and through, a gifted poet Mozart.
In an instant, it seemed like a huge spiritual satisfaction. Lisa didn't change her composure and demeanor when she was abused by her daughter, but at this moment, with a philosophical answer, her emotions were pushed to a peak. Unable to be calm any longer, she burst into tears.
goodbye before swallowing
When Jimmy was gone, Lisa cried again.
When she came home from work that day, she spoke in a cheerful tone uncharacteristically, and took the initiative to deal with the relationship with her family. She kissed her husband, bought quite a few ingredients and wanted to cook a good meal for her family, persuaded her daughter and son to stay at home for dinner, obtained an apology from her daughter, and reached a settlement with her son to a certain extent.
The next day, she looked at herself almost naked in the mirror and fell silent again.
After getting dressed, she deeply kissed the husband who had been supporting her, and walked out of the house with a suitcase.
She made a decision. She understands that this is a decision that could engulf her.
She loves her family. For her family, her decision may be a bit selfish, but what to do, she has something more to love. It was a kind of spiritual guidance that she couldn't ignore, let alone forget. The last time she was torn between ideal and real life, but the difference was that this time she had made a choice.
So, before carrying out this decision, she ordered herself to return to real life one last time, handling the relationship with her family in a slightly compensatory manner. Although she has different opinions, she no longer insists. She understands that everyone has their own pursuit and mission. She also has to go after what she values.
I love my family, but I love poetry more.
"I have a poem."
With repeated encouragement and trust, Jimmy gradually accepted Lisa. She is madly absorbing the nourishment of life in Jimmy's powerful poems, and she is also careful to discover and care for his gift that has been kissed by God. She took him to feel the nature, feel the natural water flow, and listen to the rustling rain. They had a poetic dialogue in the attitude of two adults:
"It's beautiful, isn't it?"
“it’s beautiful…and sad-looking too.”
“Sadness never ends.”
Just as Lisa thinks Jimmy shouldn't be seen as a child, he really isn't a child anymore. He would shower by himself, he would draw the curtains while he was in the shower, he would wrap himself up when he got out of the shower, and wait until Lisa went into the toilet to change his clothes. He has been educated by reality, otherwise how can he selectively listen to what Lisa says: he is indifferent to the life Lisa is crying and describes, but he believes the geographical location given by her when he calls the police. He called the police and said he was kidnapped, but he believed that Lisa was not a bad person, otherwise how could he take her hand at the end. When Lisa is completely at the mercy of idealism, Jimmy gives her a slap in the face, stopping her before she goes any further.
Jimmy called the police, how do you understand? Suggestions or discussions are welcome.
An understanding is the performance art made for artistic creation after he was stimulated by his potential. Just as he was inspired to write poetry after experiencing the water of nature, and after Lisa was arrested, he said "I have a poem" again, as if he did all this on purpose, deliberately breaking the good to inspire inspiration, there are A morbid madness common to all artists.
Another understanding is that although Jimmy is young, he has been realistic and secular. The ideal represented by Lisa was ultimately unable to match the reality represented by Jimmy. Hope itself was strangled by the seed of hope, dramatically declaring the complete destruction of the ideal. The last sentence "I have a poem" seems to be a tribute to the ideal.
In any case, Lisa and the poetry itself, have paid a heavy price.
The princess is still burning, but the boy who killed the dragon is dead. When "I have a poem" sounded again, all that was left was an endless void.
Anna
Anna is beautiful
Beautiful enough for me.
The sun hits her yellow house
It's almost like a sign from God.
The Bull
The bull stood alone in the backyard.
So dark.
I opened the door and stepped out
Wind in the branches.
He watched me
blue eyes
He kept breathing to stay alive.
I didn't want him
I was just a boy.
Say yes,
Say yes anyway.
