The Man from Earth

The Man from Earth, alluding to cave man, I always feel that the Chinese translation doesn't have that taste. I think this film was inspired by the prophet John Titor. It's a pity that the Chinese translation of the first version I saw was full of errors, and my understanding of the film would definitely be wrong. John was right: these professors are perfect listeners, and for the curiosity and decryption enthusiasts, this film is just right. Repeated questioning, trying to overthrow, believing, questioning again, discovering again... this is actually something that human beings repeatedly experience in their thinking. From the first time I saw it, I watched it 5 or 6 times later (I never watched a movie so repeatedly before), only to understand some of the interesting details, the so-called "doubts". First of all, John is the oldest and frequently used English name in the world. Then: In fact, John’s room is full of things he used to, including the bottle of Johnnie green walker-John'Johnnie' Walker, and Van Gogh’s friend Jacques is the nickname of john in French, so the subtitles were not translated; there is also the evolution of "Jesus" and "john" (the subtitles I watched were not translated). For example, several times in the play, John suddenly did not speak and looked out the window. The first time he felt that someone was coming (the worker who moved the sofa), and the second time it was the old professor. This is in line with the vigilant personality he has cultivated for thousands of years. For example, in the play John took Will’s gun, took out the bullet, and examined it, but this scene was not used in subsequent plots-he chased it out because he was afraid that the old professor would commit suicide because he could not bear the suffering of his deceased wife. One scene is not taking out the bullet, but the gun itself is empty. The old professor may be thinking about whether to end his life. For example: the cold and humorous sentence: Isn't it more appropriate to play "The Rite of Spring"? "Let's take a final look at a life scene in the Stone Age...a holiday. Imagine that this is a holiday where people celebrate the victory of the spring sun. (The Rite of Spring)". For example, in Goethe and Voltaire's cosmology, artistic assumptions always predate scientific research, but science always despises art. For example: Edith (a little older female professor), the way to kiss John when saying goodbye is to kiss Jesus. For example, at the end the black professor drove to look at the stone-9/11 passed before, and he has calmed down and thought about these issues since he went out. Almost everyone was half-believing when they left. So does he. For example: a female colleague who has a crush on John-I always suspected that she is a descendant of John in this place. In fact, the family accounted for her in the film. And the professor of biology said: "At least one person here is your direct descendant." When I watched this film for the first time, I was afraid that the scene would jump into the 3D movie stunts. Fortunately, there was none. This is a really good script, with twists and turns, fascinating stories, and zero loopholes (for example, the mention of Belgian prisons, which coincides with the times at the time, and the same immortal people met in the 17th century, 200 years later in Brussels "train station", The steam train was invented in 1840, and Brussels did have a railway station at that time). The origin of fantasy is to emancipate the mind from one's original knowledge and think deeply. There are also religions. I have friends with living Buddhas, friends who study Buddhism, friends with Taoists, friends with Catholicism, and friends with Islam... I have never quarreled which one is the true god when so many religions are together, and whether they violate What about their doctrine? Isn’t that strange? We give ourselves too much frame. Religions originate from the same origin and can exist or not exist. I thought later, to It was the last film that John whispered a few words to the old professor. The old professor died of a heart attack (instead of acknowledging each other). If this suspense is kept, will it be more mysterious-but if this is the case, it is estimated that the audience and John's colleagues will die in pain because they don't know the truth. Why don't people seek an excuse that they can accept in a short life so that they can survive. What people want is not the truth at all. I never felt that the miracles that really existed in this world would be out of touch with reality. What we think of as mystery actually comes from the time that no one has experienced, the past that cannot be verified, and the future that comes from imagination. Miracles will not travel on the water like religion, will not fly in the sky like avatars, will not play laser swords like Star Wars, and will not necessarily have aliens coming out to scare people. It is always necessary to put on a coaxing coat to make people surrender, and people gradually acquiesced that this is a "miracle." We live in 2010. How many times have we imagined the "future" in the last century? Cloning technology, spacecraft. We live in the future. How many people think we are miracles? The real miracle in the mortal world has already stood before you, just to see if you are willing to believe it.

The Man from Earth quotes

  • John Oldman: Every 10 years or so, when people start to notice I don't age, I move on.

  • John Oldman: I suspect I saw the British Isles from what is now the French coast. Huge mountains on the other side of an enormous deep valley that was shadowed by the setting sun. This was before they were separated from the continent by the rising seas as the glacier was melting.

    Harry: That happened?

Dan: Yes, the end of the Plasticine Period. So far what he says fits.

Art: [incredulous] Oh get... from any textbook...

John Oldman: And that's where I found it. How can I have knowledgeable recall if I didn't have knowledge? It's all retrospective. All I can do is integrate my recollections with modern findings.
