You are an athlete, you have never lost in tennis, you are bright and energetic, and you are very proud of your love career, but suddenly one day, you are infected with a virus, your whole body is paralyzed, you can't breathe, your body is only neck and neck. You can move above your head, leave the ventilator for two minutes, and you will suffocate to death.

Faced with such a predicament, how do you choose? Choose to die or live in bed for the rest of your life?

The movie "One Breath, One Breath", English name "breathe", tells such a true story. The film is based on the personal experiences of the parents of "BJ's Single Diary" producer Jonathan Cavendish.

The film tells the story of the handsome, smart, adventurous Robin (Andrew Garfield) and the beautiful Diana (Claire Foy) who fall in love and get married, but the 28-year-old Robin has polio, which is a child. Paralysis, the body is completely paralyzed from the neck down, and can only rely on a ventilator to maintain life.

At first, the doctor thought that Robin could only live for 3 months, but his wife Diana took him home to take care of him despite the doctor's objection. Until 1994, Robin died at the age of 64, and he lived an extra 36 years to become a medical miracle.

Robin, played by Andrew Garfield, gives people a just right feeling. In "Hacksaw Ridge", he is a devout believer who is unarmed but saves the lives of countless comrades in arms. In "Social Network", he is the co-founder of Facebook. In "Breathe and Breath", he is a poor man who can't even breathe on his own. Because he can't move, he can only rely on his eyes and expressions to portray Robin, a man who was tricked by fate.

Just 10 minutes after the film, Robin was diagnosed with a terminal illness. The stingy director used this short ten minutes to describe the love between Robin and Diana, and then used the remaining 100 minutes to reinforce and continue this. Emotions eventually fermented into great affection beyond love.

When they were in love, Robin flew a plane and Diana soared in the sky, overlooking the most beautiful terrain in Kenya from a height, which reminded me of Aunt May in "Out of Africa", soaring in the sky with her beloved man, and he also washed her hair. Well, that's the most romantic couple interaction on the movie screen.

Robin and Diana went to the wild to pick tea and camp, and listened to the sound of dawn when the world was created. Especially after Diana was pregnant, everything was so exciting, and a bright future lay before them.

Without the virus, they would be the happiest couple in the world.

However, it was just a small fork, and their lives dashed to another road without turning back, but also let us know another dazzling story.

Restricted by the level of medical care in the 1950s, the old, noisy, and ugly respirator was Robin's only hope for a few months left. He lay in the hospital bed day after day, with no interest in life, just wanted to die, Diana tried her best to escape the confinement of the hospital with Robin.

Returning home, Robin has regained his healthy upbeat humor.

The puppy at home knocked off the ventilator socket while playing. Robin almost suffocated to death. After waking up, he smiled and said, "It's quite interesting."

The couple would often joke about each other,

Diana: Poor Robin, paralyzed for life. Robin: Yeah, I heard his poor wife was a saint. Diana: She is indeed a saint. Robin: Very beautiful saint.

Robin's professor friend designed a wheelchair with a built-in respirator for him, and he was finally able to move, rescued from the tedious life of perpetually lying in bed.

The family traveled to Spain to watch the sunrise over the Mediterranean Sea. Halfway through, the ventilator broke. They were forced to stay in the wild, waiting for their friends to fly from the UK to Spain to rescue them. During this period, Diana and her son Jonathan took turns pressing the airbag to keep Robin breathing. Their optimism and reconciliation are touching. In the wilderness, drinking afternoon tea, joking with each other, without complaining.

They also had a big party with the local enthusiastic Spanish people, day and night. When the friend arrived, he was surprised and said, shouldn't you be struggling on the edge of death? What's the situation now? !

Everyone who has a tenacious will to survive in a serious illness has a relative or lover who deeply loves them and longs for them to live, such as Robin's wife Diana, such as the mother in "Sister's Guardian", they are tenacious They stubbornly expected to shake their fate with their own power, and they did. Their sturdy heroism and brave declaration gave them unparalleled power.

Eleven years after being paralyzed, Robin decided to help others like him. At that time, there were tens of thousands of severely disabled people in the UK who would spend their whole lives in hospital beds. They didn't know that they could still live like Robin.

The couple tried various ways to raise funds and made more wheelchairs, so that patients like Robin in the hospital could escape the cage and see the outside world.

However, the use of the ventilator for more than three decades has brought serious sequelae, and Robin's pleura has been rubbed for a long time, causing fine wear and tear, resulting in bleeding. The bleeding became more frequent and severe, and he risked eventually drowning in his own blood.

Since being paralyzed, Robin has chosen to live because he wants to live his life wonderfully, rather than struggling to survive. So, when he could no longer continue to be wonderful, he chose to end his life.

His friends couldn't accept his choice because they all needed him, and his presence was an inspiration to anyone.

But Diana said Robin couldn't live for friends.

Diana loves Robin forbearance, deep and courageous. Thirty years ago, she resolutely chose to take Robin out of the hospital and rescue him from the darkness. Now, she chooses to agree to her husband's death.

Nothing is more admirable than this "completion and respect".

I admire Diana's beauty, and I look up to her strength. In the dull worry day after day, because of this woman, all the ruins in life are forgotten, and all the mediocrity can be ignored.

Diana's love is as gorgeous and warm as the love poems of Russian poetess Tsvetaeva:

I will take you back from all ages, from all nights, from all golden banners, from all swords. I'm going to take you back from everyone, and I'm going to fight and take you away. You have to hold your breath.

American mythology master Joseph Campbell said in "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" that the hero is the divinity hidden in each of us, just waiting for us to recognize and present. In order to achieve this, we have to accept the call of adventure, like the heroes of mythology, to cross the threshold, obtain assistance, be tested, be taught the mystery, and finally return.

If you look at "The Hero's Journey" from a broader perspective, Robin and Diana are both heroes.

After Robin's death, Diana did not remarry, she was the grandmother of triplets, and son Jonathan became a filmmaker, dedicating the film to his mother and father who chose to live to watch him grow up.

(5.5) The two-hour struggle between the disabled and Zhijian that many people expected did not appear. This is a light comedy from victory to victory. German medical institutions are a little too Nazi, is it really not intentional? There was even a Germanic doctor with a bald head, a white coat, and round-rimmed black glasses.

It gave me the illusion of reading The Theory of Everything again.

Robin Cavendish: Believe me, ladies, my distress is far greater than yours.
