Just tell me what you think about the movie
It is a pity that "Mary and the Witch's Flower" was bleak at the mainland box office this time. There are indeed many second-hand Ghibli elements, and the film as a whole lacks such a breath. But I personally don't think it's any worse than Ponyo. Seeing Ghibli on the big screen is already satisfying.
Mary's contradiction lies in her dissatisfaction with herself: the ordinary name, the boring and dull countryside, the adult world that rejects her, and the fact that she can't do anything well. The Witch's Flower allowed her to undergo a "transformation" and experience what she longed for, which was the exact opposite of reality: an extraordinary genius who is invincible, the magical world of dokidoki, and the popular treatment in the adult world. My biggest dissatisfaction is actually that the awe-inspiring and brave Charlotte has turned into such a weak, fat, widow and old lady who does embroidery at home every day with peace of mind, and has nothing to do with being kidnapped by the thick fog. It's unacceptable, Ghibli girls should be hale and hearty even if they are old, their bodies are tough, and they can vaguely see the handsomeness of their youth...
