British and American drama reviews, reopened, and slowly updated. Compared with movies, watching an American drama (/British drama) takes a long time, so the update of related drama reviews will be slightly delayed, hope for understanding.

British drama "Collateral" (collateral damage)

Type of work: crime

Main cast: Carey Mulligan (Detective Glaspie), Glaspie (Dignitary David), Nicola Walker (Clergy Jane)...

Story overview: A series of social chaos triggered by the murder of an illegal immigrant (pizza deliverer)

Broadcast time: 12 February 2018 in the UK, a total of 4 episodes, completed

After spending some time, I finally finished watching this slightly "thriller" crime drama, and I was a little disappointed. What should I say? Anticlimactic feeling! In the first three episodes, the suspense is acceptable, but the content involved is too much (politics, war, intelligence bureau...), and it is a bit scattered; the fourth episode is barely finished, all the personnel return to their standard, what to do, what to do, It's bloody.

Don't complain too much, let's enter the detailed drama review.

Characters (many characters, see them one by one)

1. Abdullah : Iraqi (not Syria, detailed in the second half of the second episode) stowaways, shot and killed while delivering food.

2. Laurie : Pizza shop manager, Abdullah's boss, killed by human traffickers in episode 3.

3. Karen : MP David's little lover, had a daughter after a one-night stand, Abdullah was killed downstairs after delivering pizza for her.

4. David : MP, private life is messy.

5. Linh : Asian student, illegal overstayer, living with Jane, a cleric.

6. Jane : Clergy, gay.

7. Sandrine : Captain, the murderer who shot Abdullah, the pain of war remains in his heart. (Off-topic: The shape in the play is somewhat like the female version of "Cum Fu")

8. Kip : a pregnant female detective.

9. Nathan : Kip's right-hand man.

10. Peter : It is clear that it is a travel company staff, secretly specializing in the "smuggling" business.

11. Tim : The military officer, who often molested female subordinates, sexually assaulted Sandrine.

12. Berna : Inside the British Intelligence Service, infiltrating the human trafficking organization and stealing information.

All key figures, after the introduction, are ready to enter the main topic.

Story (simple plot, easy to get started)

Incident 1 : Abdullah, a pizza delivery man, is shot. (Opening of the first episode)

Reason : Abdullah knew who the traffickers were, so he was killed.

Event 2 : Laurie (pizzeria manager) is killed by human traffickers. (End of episode 2)

Reason : The traffickers feared that Laurie might be religious and told the truth.

Event connection : Abdullah and Laurie were killed because the traffickers thought they knew too much, so they were "killed", which is reasonable.

Event review:

Why is Captain Sandrine willing to be Peter's butcher?

a, because of the aftermath of the war! She witnessed her friend being blown away in front of her.

b. Because of the excess "anti-terrorism awareness", Peter (Sandrine's father's comrade-in-arms) used him and got lost.

Event ending:

①3 people died. Abdullah + Laurie + Sandrine.

②The British smuggler escaped, and two traffickers were arrested.

③ Life goes on and nothing seems to have changed.

Topics

The director SJ Clarkson mixed too many topics in this play, which made the original small and concise crime-themed works present a bloated situation. Next, let's take a look at the various topics that appear in the plot. ( So many topics, I'm tired of seeing it )

1. The topic of war

Complain about the physical and mental harm of the war to the local people and to the soldiers dispatched. (Particular attention should be paid to "Post-War Psychological Syndrome")

2. Immigration topics

Illegal immigrants (smuggled over) + overstayers (deliberately staying in the UK after a valid visa has expired)

How to face the "immigration problem"? Is it a coercive measure? Or well-placed? This is another explosive question thrown by the director to the audience in the story, and it is an unsolved question.

3. The topic of refugees

Syrian refugees, Iraqi refugees, the director made the topic of "refugees" an important branch point of the story, what was his intention? Know it. It is to directly attack the "extreme thinking" and "willingness" of some developed countries. Those who create the "refugee" crisis are the most shameful.

4. LGBT (gay) topics

can not read! Can't figure it out! How does this topic relate to the story? If it is to promote the freedom of love, it seems to have gone too far. In particular, what is the implication of linking "homosexual love" with Catholicism? I won't break it down below.

5. Politicians' private life topics

Another topic that has nothing to do with the story. Bastards, one-night stands, ambiguous relationships , huh, does it make sense for the director to reveal the romantic characteristics of British politicians ? IMHO, it's just superfluous and rhetorical.

6. The topic of the barracks scandal

The "sexual harassment" of male bosses towards female subordinates and the "sex scandals" of superiors and subordinates, all those things in European and American military camps have been put under the spotlight by the director, making people see it at a glance. The director's "self-defeating spirit" deserves praise, but are these "self-defeating" scenes related to the storyline? no!

7. Topics on the dark side of society

Illegal gangs arranging smuggling, local companies hiring cheap labor (illegal immigrants), high-class people smoking marijuana... No matter where you are, darkness and light always alternate. This is an unchanging fact and an eternal law.

There are so many topics, the director is not tired of filming, and the buddies are tired of watching and writing.

This is the end of the long review, see you next time.

Director ★★★☆☆

Actor ★★★☆☆ (normal level, no highlights)

Plot ★★☆☆☆ (There is a lot of content, it feels like a platter, everything is said, there is a feeling of "putting it in a basket is a dish")

Visual effects ★★★☆☆ (normal direction)

Sound effects ★☆☆☆☆ (the most outstanding part is the Arabic-style soundtrack, as for the others, no sense)

Recommendation ★★☆☆☆ (Four-episode mini-series, very ordinary works, don't be confused by the topics in the story, they are all gimmicks that don't work, and both stars are a bit high)
