Can you have a better life?

When I first saw the introduction of the film, I felt that this film would leave a good impression on me. The so-called "grounding", with simple and plain photography skills and line style, even if there is no gorgeous story background, it can bring us silence. Shocking, this is the cheating advantage of movies depicting the lower classes.

Most or many of us have had some experience in the film, even if it is the smallest innuendo, we can see ourselves in the film. The two main lines of the film, one is the father-son line, are also the key points. The second is the social line, which is a foil.

Regarding the father-son line, the poster gave us a full explanation. The father took his son's hand and walked in the afterglow of the setting sun. When we ignore the background of the slums, can we feel the deep affection? The role of the father is very good. When one suffocating event after another in life happened, my father's composure really struck us. I may not be as calm as the father in the film. He can, perhaps he has been through a lot. He could, maybe he knew he had a child. He could, perhaps more so because he wished or even wished for a better life...

Regarding the social line, the director handled it very well. The story is set in the slums of Florida, adjacent to Mexico. Movies about Central America often deal with a social issue, smuggling and refugees. Maybe just like the title of the film - a better life. All the Mexican refugees who want to smuggle to the United States want a better life. When we have to say that the world is cruel and we can't do anything about it, but even if we compromise with reality again and again like the father in the film, will we be able to survive and have a better life? We all know the answer - no.

I don't know if you noticed a small detail in the film. As the father and son walked through the corridor of the prison, they both looked at the lamp above the corridor, the one that illuminated the entire corridor. The director arranged it this way, a few seconds of footage is definitely not meaningless. Both gazes ushered in a common ending, the father leaving the son. Leaving aside whether the father will choose to smuggle again in the end, the ending is indeed tragic. The last words of the father and son in prison are also a highlight of the film. The son chose to listen to his father's final confession quietly. When I remembered the song that my father would sing to him in my son's memory, I seemed to understand that my father wanted a better life, perhaps not for himself, but for his own. child.

When we are in pursuit of a better life, what are we for?
