Tired of his life on the run, Hungarian forgery painter Elmyr de Hory returned to the Spanish island of Ibiza in 1969, becoming a celebrity on the island and befriending American author Clifford Irving ). Director Orson Welles introduced Emile DeHorry and interspersed with the once sensational case of Clifford Irwin who faked the autobiography of American aviation tycoon Howard Hughes, and then made up his girlfriend Olga • A strange affair between Oja Kodar and Picasso. Interspersed between true and false, Orson Welles raised the question of "what is art" and the attribution of works.
The film is the last full-length film by American director Orson Welles. Most of the footage was written by Alvin Clifford and directed by French director Francois Reichenbach. 's BBC documentary about the Hungarian forger artist Emil de Hory.
