Dionysian Victory

Because when I watched "Alien", I thought of Giger, a great man, and then I thought of this film again. At least four years ago, audiences still regretted that this version of "Dune" was not made on Earth. It was all caused by the evil Hollywood and commercial film system...and so on.

In fact, this film is completely a comedy, and it can make people cry with laughter in the first ten minutes. The male protagonist, carrying the self of a super huge pure artist, aggressively crushed the "Film Association", broke all the rules, and made a "crazy" debut. This case is now likely to be regarded as a negative teaching material for "going wild" - so many people honestly went to film academy, and after graduation, they started as assistants, and they were so exhausted that they were sprayed all day long to make bad movies. A person who does avant-garde dramas doesn't even know what scene scheduling is, so he makes a masterpiece. Are you angry?

Such controversies are not uncommon in the history of art. Maybe a non-professional is not bound by rules and can bring unpredictable innovations to a certain art, but the industry always has secret resentment and doubts about this kind of "great man from heaven". If, like Picasso, you have a solid academic foundation first, and then do whatever you want, then it makes sense. But Jodorowsky is a pure half-way through. In the psychedelic culture of the 1960s and 1970s, this kind of tossing could still be tolerated. When Coppola, Lucas, and Scorsese graduate, such "crossovers" can only play pure niche culture.

There are indeed some things that only such people dare to think about - such as the gorgeous fantasy bunker ensemble he built for the planned "Dune". A neurological producer would never be able to dream. Or rather, they felt that it was useless to have such a dream. In the "dream industry" of film, how to turn dreams into reality is the most critical step. Countless films have lost the best role candidates forever just because the actors' schedules cannot be adjusted. The loss was no less than not inviting Dalí and Wells.

Helpless, this is a universe belonging to the sun god. It decided that there would only be Lucas' "Star Wars" in this world, not Jodorowsky's "Dune". For those of you who find this unacceptable, you can check out "God of Rage" - the extra-long feature film of Riley Scott's filming of "Prometheus". After thinking about it again, in addition to finding Giger and Moebius to draw the design drawings, there are a lot of tedious scenes, casting, costumes, props, mixing, and the process of linking links. Can it be done by meeting and smoking a marijuana and talking about it for a day?

In fact, Director Lei's life is the most qualified to complain: he started making feature films at the age of 40, and he did it seriously, but he always encountered bad producers and violent editing by the company. "Kingdom of Heaven" was lost in confusion for an hour, forcing fans to make waiting for the "Director's Cut" a habit, and situations like "Black Gold Crisis" that were filmed but were slapped on their faces also happened from time to time. He even developed a self-conscious stinginess, and in interviews he always talked about "using computer special effects will cost more" (even so, the filmmakers still thought that "Prometheus" was not commercial enough, which affected the plot trend of "Contract") . In such an unfriendly reality, art can only stumble forward without daring to expect soaring luck. Soul directors like Jodorowsky, although they can burst out of breakthrough inspiration, no one dares to bet on them - after all, the rent for the studio costs the wages of tailors, props and carpenters. Someone pays. These things, have to rely on those "useless paper" to solve. Besides, it is not without examples that the imagination is out of the sky but unsightly - see "Sardus" starring Sean Connery.

And Bacchus doesn't have to confront Sun God head-on. In ecstasy, he was torn to shreds by his followers and resurrected in the form of flesh and blood nourishing the vines. Spiritual creativity with real value can also integrate artistic genes into those projects with more execution. From this, "Alien" derived from the "Dune" team later appeared, as well as a series of other science fiction films and comics. Today, with CG technology, it is a more confident choice to let someone like Villeneuve start the project again. Of course, there are no more Dalí and Wells. But is it really necessary to be so extravagant to play a fat baron and a talkative king... or pull it down.

Jodorowsky's Dune quotes

  • Alejandro Jodorowsky: I wanted to make a film that would give the people who took LSD at the time the hallucinations that you get with that drug, but without hallucinating. I did not want LSD to be taken, I wanted to fabricate the drug's effects. This film was going to change the public's perceptions.

  • Alejandro Jodorowsky: My ambition with Dune was tremendous. So, what I wanted was to create a prophet. I want to create a prophet... to change the young minds of all the world. For me, Dune will be the coming of a god. Artistical, cinematographical god. For me, it was not to make a picture. It was something deeper. I wanted to make something sacred, free, with new perspective. Open the mind! Because I feel, in that time, myself, inside a prison. My ego, my intellect, I want to open! And I start the fight to make Dune.
