Charming black fairy

Fairy tales are never taught to adults. They are to make people experience childhood. In the world of fairy tales, there is no prejudice, pretense and muddy ideology. Everything is itself. "When a child is still a child, hand The candy here is candy."

Unlike Disney’s gentle and harmless fairy tales, "Carolan" is a dark fairy tale full of inversions, confusion and irrationality, as can be seen from the title: the young master is called "Coraline" "Instead of the usual "Caroline", this cunning strange heterogeneity became the overall tone of the film: Caroline's companion is a black cat who can talk, a grim old mansion (although it has a nice name called " "Pink Palace") and the slender bodies of the characters exuding a strong Gothic style. Button eyes, spiders, mice, melted toffees, swamps and weird old virgin neighbors will seize every opportunity to show you Shine a charming black light.

Although it is an American film, the original work of British writer Neil Gaiman brings a British taste to Carolan. The driving force of the film is not the firm pioneering and explorer spirit of the Americans, but a mischievous and a little surly ten. The one-year-old girl's boring groping in her new home is like a curious child who lifts a stone on the grass and finds that there is an ant nest hidden. But Hollywood’s powerful special effects have put a gorgeous coat on Europeans’ discursiveness and introversion. The film is definitely the most magnificent stop-motion animation ever. It opens the pale surface of daily life and presents the most incredible spectacle-- -In another world, everything in the real world exists, but it becomes more wonderful, the bright icing on the cake flickers, the spider’s fine feet turn out the cold light of the metal, the rat circus happily performs acrobatics, the house In the garden behind, the hummingbird flapped its wings in front of the eyes, and the swaying goldfish quickly grew into Carolan's appearance... When two ugly old women took off their fat skins and two slender girls broke out of their shells, All the goodness, sweetness, and sorrow that may be expected in an animated movie will come true in an instant.

A scene reveals the secret of the film: The spider crafted a perfect "other world", but she only made the "useful part". Carolan and the black cat kept walking towards the border and found that they were next to them. Things gradually lose color, shape, and texture, until they come to a completely blank place---isn’t this the mystery of stop-motion animation? It is so real, but all dimensions can be erased in an instant. It changes so sinister and charming, leaving a large blank space for imagination and refusing to delimit the boundary. This is also the reason why there are still so many unsolved mysteries at the end of the film-no matter where the spider spirits come from.

In fact, the author of the film is the spider spirit, and this film is the "other world" they created. It uses weird light and shadow to seduce the restless Carolans on the screen, just to shout: Hallelujah, dear Drop Satan! Until the end of the film, we return to reality.

Coraline quotes

  • Other Father: [robotic] All will be swell, soon as Mother's refreshed. Her strength is our strength...

[one of the robotic hands closes his mouth forcefully]

Other Father: Mustn't... talk when Mother's not here.

Coraline Jones: If you won't even talk to me, I'm gonna find the other Wybie. He'll help me.

    Other Father: No point.

    [face distorts]

Other Father: He pulled a loooong face... and Mother didn't like it.

  • Coraline Jones: [on the "Other" Mother] Why does she want me?

Cat: She wants something to love, I think. Something that isn't her. Or, maybe she'd just love something to eat.

Coraline Jones: Eat? That's ridiculous, mothers don't eat... daughters.

Cat: I don't know. How do you taste?

    [chuckles]
