Before watching the movie, I read the introduction, but after watching the movie, I forgot all the normal speculations about the movie, leaving only the strange and strange plot of the movie dangling in my mind. Different from watching "Mulholland Drive" for the first time, this film does not have the abnormal style of wanton integration into dreams in real life, but is directly constructed on non-mainstream ideas. This non-mainstream setting is an acknowledgment of the existence and power of witchcraft. Admittedly, it doesn't seem to be important to study the important connotations of the film, and it doesn't seem that the film specifically wants to express it. The director is satisfied just to express his unique style (or retro style). As for discussing about feminism, it seems that it is mentioned in a few dialogues, and then it is all brought into the strange plot. Still, talking about retro style is never as disappointing as thinking about the story itself.
Let's take a look at the plot first: the heroine came to this city to find love. So, start using magic on the people she likes, but unfortunately when she gets the love from them, she gets bored of them, and they all end up falling in love with her and die. When a policeman was investigating her, the two fell in love. But it didn't last long when the wife of a man who had died because of her denounced her. In the bar, the heroine is attacked by people, the police rescue her, and the two return to the apartment. In the apartment, after the male protagonist rejected the female protagonist's love, the female protagonist killed the male protagonist, and then fantasized about the happy moment when he and the male protagonist "married".
From the very beginning of the film, it shows a retro style: bright red dress, bright red cars, bright makeup, red subtitles that only old movies have, and the standard clear and crisp voice of the heroine. It is only the male protagonist who will appear after deliberately put in this paragraph, so this paragraph lays the groundwork for the familiarity of the two.
Then there is the situation in the apartment: the retro decoration, the bizarre and fantasy paintings, various medicine bottles related to witchcraft, the deep and bright interior colors, and the temperament of the heroine are very fitting.
Next up is Victoria's teahouse: fancy pink dresses, delicate plates and china, petite pastries, and a blond girl in a wreath playing her harp gracefully, just like any girl's fantasy where princesses date Prince Charming .
Bar: red astigmatism, dancing girls on stage, gentleman-like old bartenders, wizards' mysterious concept of love.
Police Station: Old-fashioned telephones, wooden tables and chairs, retro suits, black computers, and doors and windows, except for the owner's face, which is illuminated by the lights, almost all of them are gray and dark.
A festival of wizards in the wilderness: naked believers, strange rituals, bright wizard costumes, gorgeous performances.
I have to say that the performance of the actors is still ok. The interpretation of this Italian style and these magnificent and weird styles also left a deep impression on people, but these plots are meaningless. The plot didn't create any exciting sparks, and there was no moving core throughout the whole movie. This is the most disappointing part of the movie.
