Regarding director David Lynch, the first reaction was the movie "Muholland Road" that I only watched and was my favorite. "Shuangfeng Town" is also a consistent style, weird dreams, and a creepy soundtrack.
The couples in the play have their own characteristics. They like Cooper and Audrey the most. Experienced the obsession of the little rabbit, bold expression, sensible rejection, and desperate sacrifice. In the end, I don't really care if they come together, because this kind of subtle emotional relationship goes far beyond simple love. Because of this, in my eyes this drama ends at S02E09.
James and Donna, because of James' vacillating and indecisive character, the relationship between the two of them is entangled repeatedly. I believe that Donna is a true temperament girl. Whether she seeks psychological comfort or not, she takes risks in order to find the truth, and she is also infatuated with James. And James may not even know who he really likes.
I especially like the soundtrack and interludes in the play. They are so perfect every time. The few songs sung by the female singer in the road house bar reminds me of a scene in the Silent Theater of "Muholland Road". That song made me listen. A song that moved to tears with the heroine. And James’ lead vocal "Just you", although only a simple melody and lyrics, expresses the vague love incisively and vividly.
The atmosphere and obscure imagery created by the whole play made me feel like walking in a mysterious and secluded forest, a forest that seems to hide many secrets. Here, all the supernatural and unreasonable seem to be taken for granted.
I remember that after reviewing this play, I bought some psychoanalytic books, which made me realize that there is no right or wrong for all phenomena that happen in the world, no matter idealistic or materialistic philosophy. We are just looking for a unified explanation.
On May 21, 2017, the third season will return. However, for me, the first season to S02E09 is already a complete story, so let's just watch it as a sequel. But I also look forward to how the characters in the play will change after more than 20 years.
Nowadays, American dramas are flooded with commercialization, and there are all kinds of heavy-tasting gimmicks. It is really rare to encounter such American dramas.
