"Oh, the lovely Smurfs, Oh, the lovely Smurfs, they worked together to defeat the Gargamel, how happy they were singing and dancing!" More than a hundred Smurfs, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, complemented each other, only constitute a near-perfect world. Even the big bad guy, Gargamel, has his merits. The Smurfs advocate the love of life, both for themselves and for others. They are motivated and never give up on themselves no matter what they encounter. When one of the Smurfs is caught by an enemy, they just rescue their comrades, never inflicting additional pain on the enemy.

Brainy Smurf: Papa Smurf *always* says...

Brainy Smurf: [while Papa Smurf is away, Brainy prepares to "secretly borrow" one of the magical potions from Papa's laboratory. As usual, several other Smurfs attempt to dissuade Brainy from doing this] ... My dear fellow Smurfs! While I appreciate your concern, please rest assured that I know exactly what I'm smurfing here. And besides, what's the worst thing that could possibly happen?
[the other Smurfs roll their eyes]
Smurfette: Brainy. The last time you smurfed around with Papa Smurf's magic potions, you made my garden grow those huge Venus Smurf-traps that tried to eat us all up!
Grouchy Smurf: I hate Venus Smurf-traps...! Then again, what Smurf doesn't?
Painter Smurf: [speaking with his barely-comprehensible French accent] Oui! And the time before that, you caused every Smurf in the Village to smurf in a different language -- so that no Smurf could make heads or smurfs from what any other Smurf was smurfing!
Grouchy Smurf: I hate... what Painter just said.
Vanity Smurf: And the time before *that*, you caused every other Smurf in the Village to look and sound exactly like *me*! Oh, I never felt so smurfily plain -- homely, even!
Handy Smurf: And the time before THAT, you made all my inventions smurf to life and take over the Village!
Smurfette, Grouchy, Painter, Vanity, & Handy: [in unison] And the time before *THAT*...!
Brainy Smurf: Okay, okay; you've made your point! And I *do* learn from my smurf-ups... even though, I admit, that last one you nearly mentioned WAS pretty unsmurfy.
