Foreword

Another winter passed in a blink of an eye. It has been half a year since the news of the animation of the fourth "Indestructible Diamond" of "JOJO's Bizarre Adventure" came out in late October last year (2015). The official broadcast on April 1st is so short that it can be counted by hand. I am afraid that many JOJO fans like the author have long shouted "My body is ready!" and began to look forward to the long-lost JOJO Friday.

On the eve of the upcoming animation, whether you are old comic readers for many years, new friends who have entered the pit of animation, or animation lovers who have never been in contact with this work, please follow the author to review JOJO's work. The entire history of the TV version of the animation, let's take a look at the rich highlights, and at the same time make a look forward to the upcoming new show!

TIMELINE

Let's go back to July 5th, 2012 first. At that time, it happened to be the first anniversary of the serialization of the 8th "JOJOLION" of the original JOJO comics. The always low-key Mr. Hirohiko Araki convened a large number of media and held a major press conference - "JOJO's Bizarre Adventure 25th Anniversary Commemoration Original Art Exhibition JOJO Exhibition Press Conference". The presentation was co-hosted by Google and broadcast live to the world via Youtube. The main content is naturally the introduction of the original painting exhibition for the 25th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of Mr. Araki's writing. But at the same time, two good news were announced like lightning:

1. The PS3 platform game "JOJO's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle" released by NBGI and produced by CC2 began to be produced. [ News original site ]

2. The other is the upcoming TV animation of JOJO. There was a live broadcast of a countdown from the eighth protagonist to the first. At the last moment, Jonathan turned into an animation, and made a familiar and unfamiliar "Mountain Blowing Ripples!", which opened the film. The animated prelude of Evergreen's works in the new century. original video

As soon as the news came out, everyone was boiling - actually not! I still remember that there were only a few JOJO fans running around to tell each other. After all, after the long series of the seventh installment, there are very few readers who are still following the original comics and paying attention to the most cutting-edge information of the works. After only a few days of excitement, the idea of animation was quickly clouded by worries and doubts. Really starting from the first one? Can you stick to all the animations? Will it be deleted again? So can bizarre descriptions really be animated?

Past History -

Considering the history of animation, there have only been two animations before this. The first time was OVA in 1993 and 2000, and the second time was the theatrical version in 2007. Let's go back to the previous history.

OVA is adapted from the most popular third "Star Crusade". Of course, the subtitles of the first four books were taken when the original comics were released in the library, and there was no such subtitle at that time. In terms of animation alone, the quality of OVA itself can be said to be extremely excellent and outstanding. Kong Wu's powerful characters and insolent and smooth action scene paintings are masterpieces that are not inferior to today. However, OVA has several natural flaws for new audiences.

The first is that the background of the story comes from the third part, and the explanation of the first two parts is very insufficient, and it has the imprint of the era.

Next is Mr. Hayama Junichi who is the character design. It is well known that he used to be the original artist of "Beidou Shenquan" (painting supervisor of "Beidou Shenquan 2"), with a strong personal style. In fact, OVA's painting style is far from the original painting style, and does not show Araki-sensei The impact of the original painting style has even been criticized by the original party. (However, looking back at Mr. Yushan's original painting now, it has a different taste. Besides, he himself often publishes JOJO character works on Twitter, one Zhang Yingqi is compelling, and the beauty is suffocating.)

Finally, the structure of the work is very strange, 1993 The production is the second half of the journey (the beginning of the TV animation "Egypt"), and the production in 2000 is the beginning of the third part. OVA also drastically modified the original plot, deleted many stand-ins, simplified a lot of battles, and added a lot of original transition plots. It is not very helpful for the audience to understand the original appearance of the work.

The 2007 theatrical version was adapted from the first plot of the original. The director of this theatrical version—yes, it’s Mr. Hayama Junichi again. STAFF is also almost the same team as the 2000 OVA. The character design of this work has been carefully set with reference to the original work. Compared with the TV version launched more than ten years later, the style of painting is closer to the original work without losing the commercial flavor. However, perhaps it was Mr. Yushan who was good at original painting and animation and tried to supervise for the first time. This theatrical version has lost control of the original plot. The first episode was forcibly compressed into 2 hours, but the first half was bland, Dior had been in contact with the stone ghost face for about 1 hour; the important supporting role SPW was deleted, and almost all the famous lines that everyone is familiar with in the future. There was nothing left; the two important enemies of the two knights were killed in an instant and treated as trash, and the ripple sprint could actually shake the clouds away like a nuclear explosion, and so on. However, the information about this theatrical version is only from the comments of the audience watching the movie at that time. Due to the fiasco at the box office and the request of the copyright owner, the film has not been released on DVD until today, and it has become a complete black history.

According to the speculation of relevant information, when the DVD-BOX of OVA was released overseas in 2008, due to the inappropriate description of the Islamic world, Shueisha and OVA producer AAPP publicly apologized, recalled the DVD and stopped selling it, even some original comics. The album was also discontinued, and it was not fully resumed in 2009 until the details were revised. As a result, the DVD of the theatrical version missed the release time.

The specific inappropriateness is mainly due to the original image of the villain DIO holding the Koran, and when the Huajingyuan used the French Emperor's barrier, it was originally standing on the Islamic-style spire, and was later changed to an iron tower due to Shueisha's self-defense. Subsequent comic book editions, letter-bound editions, and the third "Egypt Chapter" of the TV edition are all directly drawn as iron towers.

This theatrical version only leaves you with a few preview PVs, copyrighted paintings of several magazines, half-finished videos that flow out in about 20 minutes, and a classic ED track - "VOODOO KINGDOM" / SOUL'd OUT. It is said that for every MAD made with this song, Lord DIO will die in his BGM again www

Shueisha's attempt to animate JOJO's first film since 2006 has suffered a fiasco. In fact, a PS2 game of the same name was launched at the same time as the theatrical version. From this, we can see Shueisha's ambition to promote IP across media synchronously, but this is a wrong demonstration - the quality of games and animations are worrying, and even the protagonist voice actors are not unified. In 2012, the overwhelming JOJO exhibition, animation, high-definition gamification, art book release, comic book version release, and cross-border cooperation with fashion brands finally detonated this IP and formed a phenomenal impact. force.

A new beginning -

JOJO's first TV animation, which debuted in October 2012, was met with great doubts at the beginning.

The first is the producer david production, which everyone knows very little about. A small company that almost only undertakes outsourcing business before 2011. Before the production of JOJO, the only known independent works were "Ben·Dang" and "Demon Fox × Servant SS". Such a company can support such a huge the JOJO world?

Secondly, the characters of the work are far from the original comics. Although a certain character is retained, the juvenile chapter has been hurriedly finished in one chapter, and the "horse face" Jonathan, who suddenly appeared in the second chapter, still gave the audience a lot. shock. Of course, the consideration of the character design must also be because the style of the first and second parts of the original has changed a lot, and it is impossible to achieve a balance point. It is better to drop a style.

Finally, there is the rough atmosphere of mystery reflected in the first two chapters of the work. Originally, it was quite difficult to compress all the 12 volumes of manga into 26 episodes, and there would inevitably be some moderate deletions. However, the first two episodes of the TV version had a lot of deletions and revisions, and the rhythm was fast. In addition, a large number of keyframes used the method of still painting, which was later called "Paper Shiba House" and was criticized. It can be seen that the budget for this film is really stretched.

However, the turning point of everything is also in Chapter 2. The author was out for something that weekend, so I had to go home on Monday to watch it. But Jiyou slammed me on QQ: something big happened! Look at that OP of JOJO, don't lie to you, burst! I did everything possible to find a computer in the hotel, and I was honest and not deceived. I have never seen such a CG performance method. It is concise and complicated. This is also the first time that "Kamikaze Animation" has entered the field of vision of most Chinese audiences. The related information of Kamikaze animation will be mentioned later, and will not be expanded for the time being.

The third episode of the TV version is the first climax of this work. The story goes from Dior's "not being a man" to the end of the first fierce battle in the Joestar mansion. It is from this moment that the works have been announced from the everyday to the extraordinary, from "Les Miserables" to the vampire fantasy, and from the dark tide to the storm. The results tell us that the so-called "law of three episodes" is also applicable to JOJO.

Looking back at the first two episodes of TV, although many original plots have been deleted, those famous lines that readers are fond of have been retained, so that the two "そこにシビれる" in the first episode! あこがれるゥ! ” also gave a super close-up, making people have to admit that this david society can play. If there is any flash point in the early stage of TV's first phase under the poor production cost, I am afraid that it is because of the deep love for this work. From the later stage until the second (third) and the upcoming third issue, the tradition of "from supervision, series composition, painting team, sound supervision, to the entire lineup of seiyuu is the original chef" has been maintained.

At this time, I have to mention Aunt Kobayashi Yasushi, who is responsible for the composition of the series from one to four. I am afraid that special photography lovers will know her many times better than me. Her existence makes JOJO's TV series have a lot of imprints from special photography culture. On the one hand, the first and second parts of JOJO are full of stage-style dialogues. If you have read the original Japanese comics, you will know that there are very few lines without an exclamation mark, and almost every sentence has plenty of emotion- - So it coincides with the style of the lines of the special film. On the other hand, we can find that all OP singers are special drama singers, which allows OP music to have sufficient creative space without considering the popular elements, but makes the song more popular.

After the first episode of the animation entered the second plot, Joseph's character was very lovable, and the plot became more and more royal, and there was no shortage of friendship, effort and victory. And the overall plot of the second part is smooth and linear, each episode has a good suspense, and there is not much ups and downs in perception. In contrast, the third animation is difficult to jump out of the rut of the unit drama.

The TV version of the first issue not only won the due popularity due to its excellent performance in the middle and late stages, but also detonated the popular stalks and the long-lost purchasing power of the original party. Even if it is not a JOJO audience, it will be swiped by "I am not a human being" for a while. Not to mention that each episode provides a very high density of famous lines. In the end, I have to admit that JOJO fans are a small circle in China, but in just half a year, they have expanded into a large circle, and they have become a very sticky group.

There are many things to write about in the first phase of the animation - the unique color matching style, the excellent music brought by the two veteran composers Matsuo Hayao and Taku Iwasaki, and the performances of many voice actors. Many aspects constitute this work with outstanding shortcomings and advantages, but it is so dazzling and so special that it is impossible to forget.

It took half a year after the end of the first animation, the second animation (the third part of the original work) was announced at the JUMP FESTA event at the end of 2013 and provided the first concept PV. Please follow the author to review the next issue. Let's take a look at the long journey of the third part.
