an old lace day

"GRANDMA", a film just released by LeTV Video. The 2015 film is still relatively new, and the original title in English is completely incomprehensible. I really haven't watched much of the movie, so I clicked it without any hope, and as soon as the Chinese translation came out, I felt that I had earned it - "A Day at the Side of an Old Lace".
This is a typical low-budget film, with no fancy cast, no dazzling CG, no special effects shots, or even any twists and turns. The film tells a story of no more than eight hours from beginning to end. Remember that the characters do not add up to more than single digits. There is no sensational dialogue, no delicate picture, no montage of stitching and jumping. The director presumably wanted to make a documentary, from an observer's point of view to record a day like this, the conflicts, feuds, and the parts of their lives that are closely linked by blood between three generations of women in a family. .
The three female characters of Elle, her daughter and granddaughter in the film represent three generations of American women. The protagonist Elle grew up in the 1960s of the rise of feminism, sexual liberation, and the anti-war movement. The famous feminists Betty Friedan and Simon Na de Beauvoir was her idol, was a famous poet, lesbian. Her daughter grew up in the United States in the 1970s and 1980s. The economy declined after the Cold War. This generation of women is independent and pragmatic. She is a successful professional woman who is extremely strict with her subordinates and even her own mother and daughter. Elle's granddaughter Sage, born at the end of the last century, is a young, simple ignorant girl who doesn't know "The Mystery of Women", dates unscrupulous boys, is afraid of her strict mother, and never thinks about life, the most serious problem she has ever thought about Maybe it's whether an abortion is really going to hell. These three women come from the same family, each with their distinct brand of the times, in fact, the epitome of the entire female community in the United States. On this sunny day, they started an unexpected journey. As Elle's life unfolded slowly in this day, the family's conflicts and old wounds were slowly torn apart. In the end, love and affection triumphed over pride and dignity, and the pain Sage endured through the abortion finally evoked a sense of same-sex identity among the three women.
Rather than a feminist film, I prefer to think of it as a slightly literary but still heartwarming family comedy. Recommendation index: 5 stars.
