Chuang Shengxiao dreams of the butterfly

"Jinse"-Li Shangyin
Jinse has fifty strings for no reason.
Zhuang Shengxiao dreams of butterflies, and Wang Dichun entrusts the cuckoo in his heart.
There are tears in the moon pearl in the sea, and the jade in Lantian is warm in the sun and smoke.
This feeling can be regarded as a remembrance, but it was already in a daze at the time.

-------------------After
watching this movie, I suddenly remembered this poem.
Everyone has their original side and the side they want to be. This is how we are, wandering and lost in our original role and the role we want to be.

Charlie, a fat and bald cowardly screenwriter, wants to be a person who dares to love and hate, a person who doesn't care about other people's thoughts. Susan, the author of a drug addict who has an extramarital affair, wants to be a respected, family-friendly wife. So Charlie's personality split into a younger brother of Donald, so Susan decided to kill Charlie to hide the truth after the truth was revealed.

But no, we will eventually return to reality, and the truth will always be exposed. Just like orchids, even if we don’t realize it, we will always be part of this changing world, evolving with the world and progressing with time.

It's like the poem at the beginning. When I was in elementary school, I always thought that this sentence "This love can be turned into a recollection" describes love. Only now I discovered that the deeper level is that the author is about the passage of time and that he has not yet fulfilled his wish. Like Zhuang Sheng's dream of butterflies, Zhuang Sheng hopes to fly freely like a butterfly, but in the end it is just a dream. We always yearn for beauty and freedom, but when we are really close to that beauty, we will always be disappointed by the cruel reality behind the beauty.

I have never understood why people always like to be young, but now I understand that only when you are young can you dare to do things and not be afraid of everything to achieve your ideals. It's a pity that when I understand everything and what I really want, it's too late and I can't pursue it anymore. Just like John's death, and Amelia's new love. Once the relationship between people and people is lost, it cannot be restored.

No matter which part of the movie is the script and which part is the reality, perhaps the real screenwriter Charlie Kaufman just wants us to experience the feeling of reality and dreams, and just wants us to experience the emotion of love and loss of love, just want to Let us cry and laugh together with the characters. After watching such a complicated plot and interlocking stories, maybe we can only remember this sentence in the end: "You are what you love, not what loves you.". Maybe this is the real intention of the screenwriter.

It's a bit far away. In any case, Charlie was alone, and I was already old.

  • John Laroche: You know why I like plants?

    Susan Orlean: Nuh uh.

John Laroche: Because they're so mutable. Adaptation is a profound process. Means you figure out how to thrive in the world.

Susan Orlean: [pause] Yeah but it's easier for plants. I mean they have no memory. They just move on to whatever's next. With a person though, adapting almost shameful. It's like running away.

  • Donald Kaufman: [about McKee] But he says that we have to realize that we all write in a genre, and we must find our originality within that genre. See it turns out, there hasn't been a new genre since Fellini invented the mockumentary...? My genre's thriller, what's yours?
