The screenwriter is laughing

"I only hope that the accumulated habits of Hollywood will not ruin it and turn it into a movie like the battle for orchids, or turn orchids into poppies and turn them into a battle for drugs. Why can't you just make a flower movie? I don’t want to be filled with sexual desire shooting or speed chase, or the characters in the film have insight into the profound philosophy of life, or grow up, or accept each other, or break through all odds and finally succeed in establishing a name... This book is not this kind of story, fact It’s not like that in the last life... I stick to this philosophy.”
Charlie Kaufman said in the opening of the film.

In the latter part of the film, Charlie and the well-known screenwriter eagerly embrace each other as if they have found a new parent.
Then everything suddenly turned down.
Drugs, sexual desire, speed chase, death, growth, the realization of love...
Until the last narration: For the first time, my heart is full of sunshine, and I like it.

Then some literary and artistic young people said
, this is a movie about life! This is to persuade the people to live positively!
When Donno, like all other Hollywood protagonists, found a suitable point before he died to tell the protagonist about his fearlessness of love and enlighten the protagonist,
how many children with thin eyesight could not help but burst into tears like Charlie.

Enough!
Didn't you see the screenwriter Charlie grinning behind his back!
Make up absurd stories like official history.
Nicholas' blue barking melancholy eyes blinked and he got up with a literary air.
The anti-genre movie has become an inspirational movie.

I remember a joke. A monk was very dissatisfied with the changing world and said to others: Now these little monks are too shameful! Miss women every day! I have to take my family with me when I go out, so I don’t feel relieved.

The persevering screenwriter finally made the film into a terrific drama with all the hot elements of Hollywood.
Is this Kaufman's own helplessness, or is he still enthusiastic about persisting?
Maybe not, Charlie Kaufman just wanted to tell a joke similar to a monk.

Adaptation. quotes

  • John Laroche: You know why I like plants?

    Susan Orlean: Nuh uh.

John Laroche: Because they're so mutable. Adaptation is a profound process. Means you figure out how to thrive in the world.

Susan Orlean: [pause] Yeah but it's easier for plants. I mean they have no memory. They just move on to whatever's next. With a person though, adapting almost shameful. It's like running away.

  • Donald Kaufman: [about McKee] But he says that we have to realize that we all write in a genre, and we must find our originality within that genre. See it turns out, there hasn't been a new genre since Fellini invented the mockumentary...? My genre's thriller, what's yours?
