The resentful Emperor Anto and the Heike samurai heard about Yoshiichi's skills and asked him to go to the underworld to play the lute for seven nights. Fang Yi was sitting in the dilapidated cemetery, but it was as calm as in a noble temple, and the torrential rain was pouring, and the ghosts and fires were all around him. Fangyi's unique singing voice, impassioned in the narrative, lingering sorrow in the desolate, even the soul of the dead recalled the scene of the bloody battle and was moved by it.
The abbot knew that he was summoned by the undead, and was afraid that he would die because of it, so he wrote scriptures on Fangyi. The Yin spirit warrior couldn't take Fangichi, who was blessed by the Heart Sutra, so he had to cut off his ear and return to the underworld.
The dignitaries heard of Fangyi's adventure and summoned him to perform. The monk who had lingering fears asked Fangyi if he was going, and Fangyi replied:
"As long as I still have a breath, I will still play the pipa."
Of course, the strange talk is just a strange talk. In the after-dinner conversations of the public, it sounds extraordinarily vivid. When a monk who was cast into the sea was recruited to the underworld to play the piano, when he played for the nobles of the mortal world, it naturally added a bit of mystery in addition to the lingering aftertaste.
It's just that the relish of all the stories comes from the mouths of others. From Fangyi's own point of view, why is he so persistent in keeping secrets for the souls of the dead, even if he is in a trance day and night, even if he is reprimanded by the abbot, even if he eventually loses both ears?
Akutagawa Ryunosuke wrote a short story, "Hell Changes". It is about Liangxiu, a painter who is described as shrinking and despicable, and was ordered to paint a screen for the Grand Duke. Liangxiu, who has been criticized by countless people for his painting skills, actually showed a shocking scene on the screen. The reason is very simple, because the Grand Duke burned his biological daughter to death in front of Liangxiu, making him crazy and like a devil, and he painted a masterpiece of his life's hard work-even after the painting, Liangxiu was completely despairing and committed suicide with hatred.
Presumably at the moment of painting "Hell Change", Ryoxiu was faced with a similar situation to Fangichi. The art itself seems to possess the soul, expelling all thoughts and emotions, fully possessing the human body. No matter whether it is greed, persistence, humbleness, or suffering, it is not as good as this moment, when you are empowered and possessed by demons.
Literally, it was a samurai from the underworld who came to summon Yoshiichi. But maybe, just the opposite. The little monk who came to Tannopu from a small mountain village all the way to Tannoura felt something different in the fjord that was sung by his master and himself countless times, but now it is really beating the waves.
There is soul in the song. suddenly see the light.
So he would sing all night long. In the name of Yin Ling, I want to sing all the pipa songs in my mind. Only this time, all the lyrics suddenly made sense. At this moment, the little monk Fangyi's heart is full of ecstasy.
Ecstasy that requires blood and pain to cool.
There is no shortage of hard work and talent in the world. But only the Tao is superior to both.
Seeking the Way is the highest form of self-sacrifice.
So Fangyi said,
"As long as I still have a breath, I will still
play the pipa." What he played was the grief and anger of countless dead souls.
Playing is a never-ending obsession.
